its not restricting free speech for them to have an algorithm that weights search results. because Google isn't held to the same standards as our government. its a private organization that has always weighted searches. there are alternates out there, but google is just the most used.
they are getting beat up on the monopoly front, but there isn't going to be a 1A issue from Google.
I don't think as a search engine it is doing either. I think it was probably another case of what posters here did. Some people got it the first time, I did, while others it took a second attempt, while some others never got the Trump assasination results. when there are multiple results I have a hard time seeing a 1A issue. If Google wishes to act as a publisher or editor, Congress seriously needs to consider removing its Section 230 protections.
In regards to Google omitting "Trump assassination attempt" from the search engine’s “Autocomplete” feature, I don't think anybody was getting anything different in their search results until after thousands of people made a big deal out of it and Google finally fixed the "glitch"..... I took a screen shot on my phone at 7:40 AM Monday July 29 and the Trump assasination attempt was excluded but 4 hours later it was working. This was after Google said they fixed the "glitch". I got multiple other people to do the same search and they got the exact same results. Like I said in previous post, if Google wishes to act as a publisher or editor, we have to consider removing its Section 230 protections.I don't think as a search engine it is doing either. the algorithm is impacted by your own previous searches. kinda like the personalized adds. you may not have searched for that particular thing, but if you go to similar refences/links/videos/searches its going to weight your results in the future.
I was definitely able to find those results before 7/29. couldn't begin to tell you when the problem arose, but to me it lends credence to it being a glitch if it wasn't a problem for anyone, then became a problem for some. that sounds exactly like a glitch. In regards to Google omitting "Trump assassination attempt" from the search engine’s “Autocomplete” feature, I don't think anybody was getting anything different in their search results until after thousands of people made a big deal out of it and Google finally fixed the "glitch"..... Publisher: a company/individual that PRODUCES and distributes,I was definitely able to find those results before 7/29. couldn't begin to tell you when the problem arose, but to me it lends credence to it being a glitch if it wasn't a problem for anyone, then became a problem for some. that sounds exactly like a glitch.
you claiming they are a publisher or editor is a lot different than them actually being one.
Publisher: a company/individual that PRODUCES and distributes, and is a key decision maker in the whole process.
Editor: someone who plans, coordinates, AND revises the source material for publication.
Google neither produces, nor directly edits the material that comes up in their searches. they are never a decision maker in the content itself. someone else has to publish the content on their own website for it to be available on Google. Google itself is not the keeper, runner, organizer, source, editor, creator, original publisher of any of the Trump assassination content.
Google is not a publisher or an editor. it is a search engine. there being a problem with their search engine is NOT, and will never be, a 1A issue. the far better argument is one Google has already lost. they are a monopoly search engine, but that is not a 1A issue.
"and"Publisher: a company/individual that PRODUCES and distributes,
If Google is actively working to hide and suppress certain news and information then by your very own definition they are a "publisher" as they would be the ones responsible for the distribution (or lack thereof) of the said news or information that did not get distributed.

Back in my underwriting days, prior to joining the broker side, I had one client that averaged over 10 mpg. They even had some drivers pushing 12. Now, they always ran trucks no older than 3 years, ran coast to coast so tons of interstate miles and literally had everything imaginable on their trucks. They had tail kits, side skirts, if it saved them 0.2 or 0.3 mpg they did it. A driver under 10 mpg for a quarter would be disciplined. Of course, a big one a lot of people don’t think about is speed regulation. I’ve never seen any trucking company come near their numbers and that was 10+ years ago.

I have a buddy that has an F250 deisel. I have one too. He had his def deleted. He was trying to get me to do it. He said it improved his fuel economy by 2 mpg. Now that might be guy talk but if true, that's significant. He didn't do it for that reason though. His def system took a dump, barely out of warranty. It was cost less to delete it than to have his repaired.Speaking of deleting a diesel, our overseers have cracked down so hard on people selling the reprograming codes you can't find them. Or at least I can't. I have a 2017 Nissan Titan with the baby Cummins that I'd love to delete but can't find the program. Guy I know has a 2016 that he deleted and that truck is a beast with zero issues.

By the way, given what you do I figured you'd know but, do you have the Mudflaps app?
