Trump bullies the CDC and schools

Is that abnormal for Florida? That argument was made a couple of weeks ago about Houston's ICU being at like 95% capacity, and one of Houston's health officials shot that argument down saying in June of last year their ICUs were at like 93% capacity. It wasn't abnormal at all.

What I would be interested in seeing is what percentage of ICU patients are critical need COVID patients that actually need ICU care to live. I notice that's left out most of the time.

just a little fun trip in the wayback machine.

from the end of the Dear Colleague letter from the Obama administration

"When conducting Title IX enforcement activities, OCR seeks to obtain voluntary compliance from recipients. When a recipient does not come into compliance voluntarily, OCR may initiate proceedings to withdraw Federal funding by the Department or refer the case to the U.S. Department of Justice for litigation."

no play no pay; and a threat of litigation.

Not unique to this case.
@BowlBrother85

I saw you call out Bham but didnt see an apology related to this post.

Is threatening to withhold funding ever appropriate?

I doubt you are in any way qualified to make such an assessment... and like I said, if Biden had ever sounded the way Trump did on July 4th, you would use it as a sign of dementia. That is your agenda and it has nothing to do with concern for Biden. You simply don't want him to defeat Trump in the November election.

This is why at times I almost hope he wins , this board is going to do a 180 and you especially are going to be doing a lot of backtracking , excusing , defecting and whataboutisms. The rest will be laughing and saying ... “ we told you so “ . The board will flip and go from Trump bashing to Biden bashing.

Do your homework. Schools in Europe, etc have been open for months. I've already posted the studies, which you conveniently ignore. I also linked the prospective Netherlands project. The AAP doesn't make haphazard policy statements.

Interestingly, I haven't said a word about Trump. I've moved completely out of the politics of the infection and schools, as that's my job. Further evidence of your illness.

I quoted the part actually referencing real-world experience. Did you read the other links I provided? Are you now more qualified than the AAP? Have you also been directly caring for children exposed to and infected with CV19? Do you get the same daily updates that I do on all the Pediatric data nationwide?

These two posts caused LG to vanish like a fart in the wind [movie?]. If only UT could beat the Gators with such ease. Nice work @kiddiedoc.

@lawgator1 , doc is probably working this morning if you wanna leave your home, bring your ball back, and play today.

Doc said if they dont run at thos capacity percentages, they aren't profitable.

“On Tuesday, in testimony to the Israeli parliament, Dr. Udi Kliner, Sadetzki’s deputy, reported that schools—not restaurants or gyms—turned out to be the country’s worst mega-infectors.”

Let me guess, you are a teacher?

When a school system shuts down they layoff bus drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance people and I'm sure many other employees. Not to mention reduced utilities. So tell me why do they need federal dollars while closed?

All the employees you just mentioned were still being paid while we were conducting class online

I’m sorry, are they not part of the equation considering many of them are much older than I am? I know many parents are “frustrated” because they have to actually take part in their student’s education now instead of pretending it doesn’t matter

My daughter and both sister in laws are teachers and when the schools shut down in their districts it was early vacation. So I understand why teachers are not wanting to go back.

I would propose this
Any school that doesn't want to open, fine
No teacher, no one in administration and no democrat teacher unions get paid
The money that is allotted per student gets returned to the parent who is struggling to figure out how they can work and home school their kids

Not for me, we went to online classes and I was answering questions and tutoring students 7 days a week. We have already been given 10 furlough days for next year so I am not sure what your point is?

Teachers don’t have kids or get sick. My wife has cancer and several teachers I work with are over age 60. I guess I can sleep in a tent in the front yard and talk to her through the window

My point is there is no standard across the board and no accountability so if schools do not open they do not need federal funds.

I actually think you could have a locale that examines their own situation and comes up with a way to balance the risks such that they could offer brick and mortar school hours, albeit perhaps modified in some way.

What bothers me is that Trump sends out a tweet disavowing the CDC on the issue, demands all schools be open, regardless of circumstances, and threatens to cut off federal aid if they dare defy him.

I honestly do not understand how anyone could possibly defend that.
Easy. CDC is fake news. Trump is right about everything, no one else knows what they are talking about. That's what they say about everything.

Federal funding generally funds students with disabilities not teacher’s salaries that is at the state level. Those services still have to be provided if students are not on campus.

Per the attached article if schools are closed they don't need federal funds, you're right it doesn't go to teacher salaries.

Federal Education Funding, Explained

Schools exist for a reason. Parents are there to teach values and life skills, schools are there to teach algebra, writing skills, etc. so it can be frustrating for working parents that are forced to work from home and make sure their kids are doing their school work properly.

It's not that kids without pre-existing conditions will die. It's about spreading the virus (and the unknown long term effects of COVID). K-12 schools are probably the number 1 place viruses spread in the US. Arizona partially opened up and our COVID numbers are exploding, and that's without schools being in session still.

Let's forget about politics for a second and just consider smart policy and the economy. If opening the schools up contributes significantly to the spread of the disease, will that be good or bad for the economy?
Also, and I think this is a big point people are missing, most kids parents are still at work when they get out of school. Who watches them after school until mom or dad gets off work? Usually the grandparents. Big yikes

No, usually it's after school daycare.
