Trump Deliberately Lied To Americans About Covid 19

I do not know what the Ds response would have been. But the politician's ultimate goal is to position themselves to take all credit when things go well and assign blame to anyone besides themselves when things go badly.

We may be able to use the D's response to Trumps travel ban to/from China in the early days of the pandemic as an indicator of how they would've responded. I think he made the correct call. D's took the opportunity to play the racist card.

Didn't Pelosi and other Dems call for people to visit China town in late February while the interview is in early February? If he took a more panicked demeanor, we can absolutely assume they'd cry nazi, dictator, power hungry blah blah.

The cynic in me agrees with you. But, to be fair to huff, it would just be speculation.

America’s Authoritarian Governor

Georgia had an early surge of the virus, and now cases are spiking again. Brian Kemp has refused to learn a thing.

"Georgia’s response to the pandemic has not been going well. It was bad from the beginning: Back in early April, weeks after other states took initial precautions, Georgia dawdled toward a shutdown while its coronavirus cases surged. Still, less than a month later, the state chose to be among the first in the nation to reopen, bringing back businesses known to accelerate the virus’s spread, such as restaurants and gyms, even though new infections had never made a significant or sustained decline. In June, the state welcomed back bars. What happened next was predictable, and was predicted: Case counts came roaring back. More people got sick and died. Many of these deaths were preventable. The state now has the sixth-highest number of coronavirus cases in the United States, behind five states with significantly larger populations."

"In Georgia, and around the world, it has become clear that a novel virus doesn’t respond to the anti-scientific, expertise-shirking preferences of modern authoritarianism."

"... like the authoritarian he’s shown himself to be, Kemp seems intent on maintaining the disastrous course his administration has plotted so far, at the expense of the people of Georgia. “It’s truly unbelievable,” Heiman said. “It will be a case study for decades to come of what an utter collapse of political and public-health leadership looks like.
I dont think you are* the author knows what authoratarian means.

Not demanding people do what the government says doesnt equal authoratarian. Its quiet the opposite.

And I like that the article rages about how many sick, but avoids the number of dead.

*oof

@n_huffhines brings up an interesting angle, imo.

Do we (do I) get my information from government, elected leaders, and politicians?

I confess, I cannot remember anything I have altered about my habits or way of life because of information disseminated through government. And not just related to this pandemic; I am talking anytime. Maybe I would heed warnings about travelling to a hostile country if I were travelling internationally on a routine basis.

Whether or not you remember altering your behavior or even ever acknowledged that you altered it, doesn't completely speak to their influence.

Did you look at the food pyramid and go "********" or did you take some of it to heart?

Would you leave your teenage daughter alone in a room with Biden?
With no hesitation, but I do not have a teenage daughter.
I would be far more comfortable with my daughters spending time alone with Biden than with Trump.

Former national security adviser John Bolton told Yahoo News on Wednesday that President Trump’s failure to level with the public about the gravity of the coronavirus threat “almost certainly” cost lives and is emblematic of Trump’s tendency to make decisions solely on what “will affect him politically.”

“A real leader knows how to communicate ‘We’ve got a serious problem here and we’re going to address it seriously,’” Bolton said in his interview with the Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast. “That doesn’t cause a panic among the American people. They’re not children. But Trump knew that if he were truly candid about the nature of the threat we faced and what might have to happen that he would bear negative consequences.”

Me and McDad types: the government should treat people like they're adults and tell us the truth about threats to our safety and security so that we can make good decisions for our lives.

McDad's vibe in this thread: it's OK that he didn't treat us like adults and tell us the truth about this threat to our safety and security.

Herman Cain might still be alive, for ****'s sake. He believed Trump.
So smart guy Herman Cain who died in July was only getting his Covid information from Trumps press conferences in February?

That's incredibly unlikely it's the thing the entire world talks about even sports, we knew better before June, and that would he wasnt intelligent at all if it was true.

That's honestly scary Luth.

Trump marries super models.

Biden inappropriately touches wife's breast and smells children hair.

One is a billionaire used to sleeping with beautiful woman who sleep with him by choice. Biden in the other hand is a serial sex offender. And if u disagree go grab your coworker breast next time your at a christmas party and see how fast you end up on the registry.

So if Trump had said what he believed to be true about the threat, dems would have taken the other side and we still would have been divided?
That is what happened.

1. Trump played up the virus. Dems downplayed.
2. Dems played up the virus, Trump down played the virus.
3. Trump played up the vaccine, Dems down played the vaccine.

I don't agree with your characterizations of either.

IDK about "incredibly unlikely", but you make a fair point. Cain had time to get more info and make a more informed decision, but that doesn't mean those initial biases weren't still at play. I wouldn't even say "unlikely". How many people do you know who had a strong opinion that covid wasn't a big deal at the start and then did an about-face?

Sorry Monty, but regardless of what my personal feelings or opinions are, reading this adds NOTHING to the conversation. Bolton was gone from administration 4 months before COVID and qualifies his opinion with “almost certainly.” Then goes on to ad hominem statements not regarding the subject matter but against the character/personality of the President

Way too serious about it all. This thread is simply a gotcha against Trump. A candidate I am not voting for anyway. So, I am having fun with the gotcha brigade.

Perhaps you can tell us how many people could have been spared with a better response? No one else seems to be able to.

Best case for America? About 75k -100k fewer dead. Of course that would be if all involved, not just the POTUS, didn't bungle this. WHO, CDC, Democrat Govs, etc., all deserve a good slice of the blame. Would people still be mad at Trump? Yup.

More likely scenario would be 25 - 50K fewer if everything happened the same and Trump put a federal plan in place which hinged on metrics. Economy would be further along too. Would people still be mad at Trump? Yup.

You may want to poke holes in these estimates, but I used a time machine to get these numbers. I've lived through 2020 1,000 times just to get a good sample. Nothing you can say to me will affect me at this point.

Also, since I know you will have questions about my time travel, my time machine rental contract only allowed me one trip to a time prior to 2020. My only two options were, I could kill Hitler or sleep dart Butch Jones as he was about to send in the field goal unit when we were 1cm out against Oklahoma. I don't think I have to say what my decision was.

I mean you can be honest with people and not project panic. It is amazing that trumpers are applauding him for lying to them. I suppose they are too emotionally unstable to hear the truth. So what else has he lied about? Make you wonder.

I wonder if a trumper saw smoke in their neighbors attic, would they alert them or down play it, so as not to cause the neighbors to panic.

would he not know the character/personality of the person he worked for?

since huff took me down the hypothetical path, lemme throw this out for fodder:

You're president. Your trusted science team says there is a serious pandemic we must take unprecedented action to save lives. Your economic team says the economy is in free fall and we are on the verge of a financial collapse worse than the Great Depression. Their suggestions to you are in complete opposition to the other's concern.

What, as president, do you do?

McRib did an about face but in the opposite direction...started with a strong opinion it was a big deal.

Life over money always. The economy can be rebuilt.....death is final.
