TrumPutinGate

Yes... That was EXACTLY the intent. The Constitution was a document that had to be ratified by the states. The EC was part of the deal. Without it, the framers knew we'd get an endless parade of favorite sons from a few highly populated areas and small states would get left behind.

Not sure what is so hard about this - the states essentially agreed to abdicate some power to a centralized rule for the benefits of the sharing costs.

The USA is not just a big state with the existing states being equivalent to cities or towns in a state. It's an overlay (or at least that was the intent)

Everyone knows the system.
Trump won according to the rules.
Trump lost the popular vote.
Republicans have won the popular vote in only one national election since 1988.
These are facts we all know.

The electoral college allows a person to win who is not the choice of the majority of the voters. It's happened twice now in the past 16 years.

I'm among those who think the need for an electoral college has past. Some disagree, most agree.

I use the fact that it's not allowed at the state level to bolster my point.

You disagree with me. So what. Get over it and stop the crying.

Well, would you look at this?

It blows my mind that it doesn't occur to some people that we put the word "States" in the name of the country for a reason. The EC was put in for a reason and it's a pipe dream to believe that you could get 2/3 of Congress or 3/4 of the states to vote it out.

Exactly. If they did away with the ec, half the states would likely secede from the union. Few people want LA and NYC dictating national politics.

Since you advocate for popular vote do you also advocate we be a democracy rather than democratic republic? If not, why not - I mean shouldn't one vote count as much as any other?

That whole 2 Senators from each state must burn your biscuits.

The 2 senators per state certainly negates much of the need for the electoral college argument.

The distribution of power that 2 senators per state provides certainly leads to a lot backroom handshakes and pork barrel projects....which may not always be bad.

The EC is ballyhooed as a means for the elites to save us from populist, but dangerous, people. If so, it failed. In fact, it did the opposite of what it was supposed to do.

Took a screen shot of this. Can't wait until the next election

Disagree with the first part given the separation of powers. If you support 2 senators you should support the EC since the Exec and Legislative have differing governing powers - why have one without the other.

So Hillary can win?

Are you stupid or just play stupid on VN?

Read your own link.

Are you kidding me?

It says exactly what I was referencing. The county unit system in GA was used to benefit rural counties over urban counties. It was ruled unconstitutional. What are you missing?

If anyone has a couple of minutes, read the link and see if it's me or hog88 that is the doofus.

You and the rest of the liberals need to take your last sentence and live by it.

Do those blinders ever get uncomfortable?

That's just too much! I doubt I've ever heard from anyone who is more insulated against reality as poor luther here, and he thinks others have the blinders on.

lol

I mean, luther actually thinks his ultra-liberal craziness represents the average jane and joe across America. He believes his liberal rags and news broadcasts are straighter news than Fox.

Again... I don't think I've ever seen anyone more culture blind, tone deaf, and numb to themselves as poor ol' luther.

Most Americans are more liberal than conservative. More identify as Democrat. More live in cities than rural areas.

Most Americans would prefer that each vote carry the same weight. The current system unjustly gives rural areas more power than they should have.

Boo Hoo.

Change the Constitution.

So... just convince all those people to either go vote or pressure their representatives to push an amendment.

You're wanting cities to have total control over the rest of the state and certain cities control over the whole country. Is that just?

Not a democracy. Get 3/4 of the states to go along with you. Good luck.

The electoral college system renders many votes worthless, both democrat and republican.

For example, in states that are heavily weighted to the left (e.g California, New York) there is no incentive for Republicans to even bother casting their vote because of the winner take all system.

That's the flaw.

The electoral college could better serve "the will of the people" by allotting a proportional number of electoral college delegates based on the percentage of votes cast for candidates.

I.e. Why should California send all of the electoral delegates for a democratic candidate if he or she only wins the state popular vote by a single vote? The winner take all system is disenfranchising the republican voters from even wasting their time in the largest EC state.
