Turkey: Our NATO Ally

A couple of months old.

US and Turkey: It is not over yet
US-Turkish relations are tense but it is too early to talk of decoupling.

The US ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield and nine other Western envoys had been threatened with expulsion after they called for the release of jailed Turkish philanthropist Osman Kavala – an act the Turkish government perceived as meddling in its internal affairs.

From the Turkish side, the perception that the US is an unreliable ally and is in fact seeking to undermine Ankara has been growing and feeding anti-Americanism over the past five to six years. Washington’s decision in 2015 to arm Kurdish forces in Syria affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara – and its Western allies – consider a “terrorist” organisation, and allegations of US involvement in the attempted coup against Erdogan’s government in 2016 have all fuelled this sentiment.

America sponsoring terrorists again...

And I was so looking forward to going to Turkey for my hair transplant and to meet my next wife. Always a day late and a dollar or more short.

Watched a segment on 60 Minutes many years ago...the Kurds seem to be the most reasonable, rational, pro American entity in the ME, sans Israel.

Got a link?

Looks like u gotta have Paramount +. It was really good..cannot remember but at least 2006. Flag waving capitalistic freedom loving Kurds, not this bastardized Jihadi Islamists that have infiltrated the ME. They seemed like well....you and me.
We have thrown them under the bus so many times since, that they probably hate us now.

A special military operation... I'm sure Western sanctions are coming soon.

Turkey renews threat of military offensive in Syria (yahoo.com)

Erdogan said over the weekend that Turkey would not wait for permission from the United States before launching such an operation.

Washington last week warned Turkey against launching a military operation into northern Syria, saying it would undermine regional stability and put US forces serving there at risk.

Why is Turkey invading a sovereign nation? I expect the mass condemnations from the VNPF to follow soon.
And keep in mind, they are going after the same Kurds that the Ukrainiancs are saying that the US is supporting in Syria.

So now look at the foolishness that we have going on in Syria with the Kurds. Two NATO nations invading Syria. One is supporting the Kurds and one is fighting against them. And none of these guys say one damn word.

Let's not forget about the weekly bombings Syria receives at the hands of Israel. Not one word either from that crew.

It is concerning as friction grows between the US and Turkey. IF…Turkey pivots away from NATO as a result, the next red flag will be exactly how close they become with Iran. Turkey and Iran have already worked to strengthen ties through several bilateral agreements and Russia is the primary supplier of energy to Turkey. The sand is shifting in that region and a stronger marriage between those three could spells trouble for Israel. It will become clearer once we see how Russia comes out of this war and how they shift their policies either under Putin or new leadership.

Much of the time I can't see Turkey's use to us as more than a monitor on the Black Sea stopper these days, and it almost seems like that's not all that important - especially after Russia's little debacle. Personally I'd dump Turkey from NATO and add Sweden and Finland and call it a good day if Turkey won't get out of the way - not sure what their problem is exactly other than trying to feel important. It's nice to have friends all around the globe, but sometimes some of them aren't worth the high maintenance.

Really?

And you've forgotten another important country in that region that is moving/shifting and that is Saudi Arabia. Now you think about this, The US is pushing Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, India and China together with Russia.

India and China have their own problems with each other as do Saudi and Iran. I’m looking more at who they players are that would want to move against Israel in the future. Iran we know about, Turkey taking a more hardline Islam stance as of late and the remaining piece to be seen will be who’s in charge of Russia after this sorts out and what their policy shift is going to be. I don’t think Saudi, India and China are going to turn their ire toward Israel and I don’t think the six of them are all going to be one big happy family anytime soon.

You get the impression that when Islam is involved there's never the hope of a big happy family. Considering the India/Pakistan squabbles over religious belief, it's hard seeing India allied with an Islamic nation, and like you believing India and China will patch up differences seems far fetched. Turkey seems like a goofball nation that can't figure out what it is or who to be allied with. I still have a hard time with Turkey as a member of NATO and blocking a couple of countries far closer the the North Atlantic than Turkey will ever be.

The very fact that China/India and KSA/Iran would be moving closer together 9 months ago would have been unimaginable is something very significant right now.

India has the world's 3rd largest Muslim population. The Muslim population in India is roughly 11% of the world's Muslim population.

From my understanding India is already allies with Bangladesh, which has over a 90% Muslim population.

So taking all that into consideration it isn't far fetched at all that India and Pakistan could become allies.
