tweets from Diamond's father

Wow!! That came out fast!! I didn't realize he tweeted that directly to Holly's twitter account lol damn

I just watched the press conference and the saddest thing of all is she thinks that they played well, and will win the SEC tournament. She takes no blame.

The other is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever seen in every press conference. She apparently has never had any training in that area, as she continues to scratch her head after every question. The assistants sit on the bench like they are being held hostage at gunpoint.

The decline hasn't surprised as I saw the writing on the wall as soon as I heard she was the head coach, I just didn't think it would be this fast.

Other than Nine Turnovers by two players (Diamond 5, Nared 4), the Lady Vols did play a good game.

Yes, if your definition of a good game is not scoring at all and dribbling around with no purpose and then throwing up a desperation shot before the shot clock expires then you are correct.

DD was about the only kid that competed tonight. Some of her turnovers were because Russell is too weak to receive an entry pass. My goodness you have to hand her the ball because she is never in position to receive it.

If DD played for Geno or CPS (before her health issues) they would mold her into a superstar. She is very talented but needs a strong coach to bring out her talent. Geno made Tina Charles into a superstar. CPS made Chamique Holdsclaw into a superstar. Both Geno and CPS would be in DD's face until she played up to her immense talent. I will include Kim M. in this list also. She made Brittney Griner into a superstar. Holly lacks this ability. Which is unfortunate for the great LV fans.

While Lindsay contends that Warlick should just let DD "do her thing," in fact that's precisely the problem. Warlick has let DD do her pouty, prima donna thing--and she's been bad. As you say, a strong, tough-minded coach would not put up with DD's nonsense--her sporadic effort--and she would get the message and probably respond, though Holdsclaw was no prima donna and neither was Charles, so DD might be more of a challenge. Her body language was a red flag from the first game. I give Warlick credit for benching her, but of course the point is to get the MOST out of her and everybody else on the team, not the least.

100% correct

Getting players to play to their full potential is a integral part of being a coach

You are correct! And benching Diamond probably pissed off Delino.

On November 19, 1993, Delino DeShields was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for then-prospect Pedro Martínez. In retrospect, THIS IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE WORST TRADES IN DODGER'S HISTORY. DeShields hit a mediocre .241 during his three years in Los Angeles, while Martinez went on to win three Cy Young Awards and established himself amongst the greatest pitchers of all time.

This may be true hypothetically, but it has been clear since DD signed with North Carolina that she doesn't want a strong coach. She wants, as she basically said when signing with NC, to be able to play her own game without interference. So there is no way imo that she would ever respond/put up with/stay the course with Geno A. as her coach. She'd be out of town yesterday.

To me, this is a classic "emperor's new clothes" case. DD has enormous talent, to be sure, and when she looks good she looks as good as anyone. But those times are few and far between. Yes, she was freshman of the year at NC, but her stats, as was posted here some time ago, weren't very different from what they are now--lots and lots of shots, mediocre shooting inside the arc and terrible shooting outside it, and a lot of turnovers--but very few fans, and no one in the media, seem to have noticed. And I don't think it's an accident that none of her fellow transfers from NC seemed to want to join her elsewhere. With a major change in attitude and work ethic and a willingness to be coached she could be an all American. But I don't see any signs that's likely to happen.

"There was never any doubt she was the kind of talent coming out of high school that could have kind of a Maya [Moore] impact on a program," Auriemma said. "It was managing all the other stuff that went along with it that was going to be an issue for wherever she went."

Yes, all of Diamond's team leading turnovers are the fault of her teammates.

ALL THE OTHER STUFF in Geno's quote could very well be her father.

I think Holly is in over her head. The LV have top 5 talent with a coat tails coach. There's a reason she never left Pats side and that's because no one wanted her. I'm not sure who UT could hire but she needs to go. 45 years old and worst use of LV talent in my life

Well I'm 66 years young and have followed since day one of the Lady Vols. And this is the worst coaching I've ever seen comparable only to Dereck Dooley...hence Holly Dooley Warlick. She's got to go.

Nope Diamond's dad is wrong here..DD has done nothing this year to show that she is an elite talent..just the opposite the team looks worse when she is on the court

Holly has done nothing to show that she is an elite coach. Heck she has not shown to be an average coach. Like it or not , Holly is nothing but a fraud and should of never been handed the job. She has ruined this once proud national power.

In case you missed it.

@LadyVol_Hoops if Holly don't put @DDDeshields back n the game!!!! What are you doing?

@HollyWarlick trying to beat the best without her best players on the court! #sad

Oh ... Now you put her in!?!?!

@LadyVol_Hoops Good coaching recognize bad coaching!!

DeShields had 5 turnovers in the game and generally has an average in some games of 6 to 7. Sure she scores, but when those turnovers results in 8 to 10 points for the opposition team...what good are her points. Take those points from her scores. Between DeShields and Nared there were 9 turnovers in the game.:eek:k:

The thing is recruits all season has seen UT on national TV!!! What recruit is going to want to come and play for Holly and this offense???

Kyra Elzy had the defense that was stopping South Carolina well into the 4th quarter...the offense faltered and did not produce points. Russell is not producing points either by shooting or on free throws. She is lacking in coaching to produce fouls on her in shooting. Russell simply cannot handle the receipt of simply passes resulting in turnovers. Holly needs to coach her on free throws and have her shoot 75 to 100 until she reaches at least 70 percent. She should be fouled by the opposition at least 5 to 6 times per game. Instead the opposition takes the ball away from her...poor coaching:thud:

Partially true, but look how many times she simply threw the ball into the opposition hands when there was no way except a turnover...poor decision on her part too. Agree with you on Russell too.

Hopefully this is the beginning of change and Holly will be out the door! More parents need to become vocal. Where are Dunbar parents and Te'a's father?

Dunbar has the ability to shoot 3-point shoots, but is totally lacking in defense. If she could improve her defense she would play many more minutes. The coaching staff needs to work with her on defense.

It is never to late to buy a book about basketball. It might help.

Yeah shocking.... A father of a kid playing sports upset about playing time

You hear this stuff at every little league game in the country. Parents screaming at the coaches. Parents screaming at the refs. Parents picking fights with other parents. Making everything all about me, me, me. Where do you think kids learn their selfish, narcissistic behavior? When you see a college kid behaving poorly, it is because they had a parent who taught them how.

2/3 of DD's turnovers are not her fault at all. Sure they go on her column in the box score, but most of them are because whoever she is passing to is asleep, isn't ready, can't handle a well-thrown pass, or is as fooled by DD's skill at looking one way and passing another as the the other team. Some of her turnovers are bad passes, but fault for most of them is on the receiving end.

The forty percent Diamond shoots is a lot better than the 30 percent or less the other guards shoot together. You can't depend on the post players they can't catch the ball and when they do have no moves to score.
