I just watched the press conference and the saddest thing of all is she thinks that they played well, and will win the SEC tournament. She takes no blame.
The other is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever seen in every press conference. She apparently has never had any training in that area, as she continues to scratch her head after every question. The assistants sit on the bench like they are being held hostage at gunpoint.
The decline hasn't surprised as I saw the writing on the wall as soon as I heard she was the head coach, I just didn't think it would be this fast.
As a general rule I try not to watch the Lady Vols - however I did end up watching the last 4 minutes and although DD did score a few points during that span - I am not sure that I have ever seen a more disorganized mess than what I witnessed in those 4 minutes. It can only be described as rec ball with one person taking every shot while the other 4 watched to see if it was going to go in or not. There is no way to have any chemistry on a team when you have one person shooting and dribbling every time they touch it and never looking to distribute the ball. The ball stopped moving every time it reached her. Four minutes is not enough time to critique the play of DD, the team, or the coaching but you have to have better ball movement, player movement and the ball can't reside in one persons hands the whole time. Perhaps she was trying to make up for lost minutes - but what was striking - was having one person going 1 on 5 with the other 4 not involved.
"There was never any doubt she was the kind of talent coming out of high school that could have kind of a Maya [Moore] impact on a program," Auriemma said. "It was managing all the other stuff that went along with it that was going to be an issue for wherever she went."
I really don't know how a person sews discontent. Might be a little hard to do. But if they sow discontent, which happens with seeds being sown (planted) we may be on to something. lol. jk.
Her dad is a professional, which HW is supposed to be after 30 years of coaching at one of the top 2 collegiate women's basketball programs in history. Any honest person that knows anything about the game can see the system is not designed for the roster and HW is clueless about managing the roster and system she does run in games. He is simply frustrated that she wasted her transfer coming to this mess.
You do realize that the ball movement is still horrible when DD is on the bench, right? I hope you also realize that most of the other players in the team are afraid to shoot and hesitate even when they are wide open?
So far Diamond has been a big disappointment, so has Russell, Te'a, Graves and just about any young lady wearing the big orange. The coaching also has been far less than stellar. With that being said, DD's dad has a point, I hate for a parent to decide that his daughter's playing time is the reason for the failure of this team. DD has made a lot of mistakes and is playing no where near the way she played her freshman year. She also presents herself as a spoiled little Bi--h. Is that coaching, yes to some degree but DD has to making better passing and shooting decisions inspite of the coaching, or the lack thereof. That is what good leaders do. Good leaders are not the issue they are the problem solvers, right now, for some reason, DD's playing is both good and bad. She needs to be a positive for this program to make any noise in the post season. I just do not see that happening. Daddy D needs to realize that his daughter is a part of the problem.
I would be playing Russell, Deshields, Cooper, Dunbar, and Graves 36 minutes per game if a team was in a zone. Just win or lose with those players. If they went to a man to man then I would sub in Nared for Dunbar. Carter has regressed in the last couple games so I would play her minimal minutes. Same for Reynolds she really can't guard anybody on the perimeter no better than Dunbar can.
DD has been described in lots of words in some of these posts. It can all be summed up by saying $1,000,000 talent, $0.10 head, $0.10 heart, $0.01 concern for team. Keep track of her career from here on, including WNBA, she will be an empty stat filler that never plays on a high-caliber winning team. If she happens to end up on a winning team with a winning culture she will be a bench player. There are tons of issues associated with Holly being a bad coach. But DD owns her poor decision making, selfishness, and lack of heart on the court.

If DD played for Geno or CPS (before her health issues) they would mold her into a superstar. She is very talented but needs a strong coach to bring out her talent. Geno made Tina Charles into a superstar. CPS made Chamique Holdsclaw into a superstar. Both Geno and CPS would be in DD's face until she played up to her immense talent. I will include Kim M. in this list also. She made Brittney Griner into a superstar. Holly lacks this ability. Which is unfortunate for the great LV fans.
12,014 fans in attendance last night. She can still put paying customers in the seats.
I don't blame her one bit if she's miserable. She plays for a bush league coach, and many players that aren't worthy of a Div I scholarship. I'd be miserable too. I'm amazed she's lasted as long as she has.
There's nothing that better teammates and coaching won't fix. She is going to have a better WNBA career than college career, individually and team wise, for sure.
Irrelevant. #1, those issues existed for her way before she was coached by Holly. #2, any player that plays they way she does "because she is miserable about her coach" does not have the right attitude to be a high-caliber player that is part of a team with a winning culture.
And, to say she is on a team full of players that are not worthy of D1 scholarships shows your ignorance and I now regret that I even replied to your post.
