You think elite HS QB's are afraid of competition? I don't. These kids have done nothing but compete since they were little. And I believe this kid when he says it doesn't affect his decision. I've watched his interviews and read others. He seems like a good kid, genuine down to earth southern boy, telling the truth. But again, maybe he's lying and you're right. No disrespect but I doubt you know how every stud QB thinks. Really?
Agree with all of that except I lay part of it at his feet too. I guess I might quibble with the WR part. I think he has two very good ones and a decent supporting cast.i agree.
i'm also anxious to see what Chaney can do with him...
the biggest problem with the whole converstation with JG is all the "if's"....if he had a good OL, if he had a real OC/QB coach, if he had great WR's, if he had a reliable run game, if, if , if..........
time's running out, it's not all his fault mind you, but the clock is ticking none the less.
all that said, i am still relatively excited about what kind of progress he can make in this particular system.
Some possibility there. The best answer obviously is that he improves, the OL improves, and Chaney implements an offense that effectively uses the talent UT has.I’m hoping for a GREAT year in this case. If it’s mediocre or bad I think we just start an underclassman in 2020 regardless of what JG decides to do.
Which circles back to why we need Bailey and King both. There will be plenty of opportunity for them as freshmen.
I sincerely hope not for multiple reasons... but you could be right. This was still a issue in this years spring game. Other parts of his game are pretty solid. If CJC can help him improve this part of his game big things are possible but if not I could see him possibly sharing reps with JT or Brian at some point this season.
i think part of it is on him as well. the issues you've described about his pre reads and pocket management are real.Agree with all of that except I lay part of it at his feet too. I guess I might quibble with the WR part. I think he has two very good ones and a decent supporting cast.
Most kids go where they think they’ll be developed best for the next level. Competition at any of those schools is going to be pretty heavy. Hell I would argue our competition outside of Bailey is pretty lackluster at QB and with Chaney being such a great developer at the QB position that should be appealing. I would argue competition is more at AM currently. You think elite HS QB's are afraid of competition? I don't. These kids have done nothing but compete since they were little. ...you just said he’s athletic when he escapes the pocket which means he is dual threat. Dual threat just means someone can run if they need to. Doesn’t mean they have to be dobbs level. He ran a 4.6 coming out of high school and he’s picked up several first downs by running in his time here.He had “incredible runs” against a bunch of slow, undersized New Jersey highschool kids....he wasn’t plauing vs Texas or Georgia kids, he was playing vs New Jersey kids and there was absolutely no reason to believe he was a dual threat qb. And as we saw literally in his first collegiate game vs UMass 3 years ago, he is and always was a qb that wants to play almost exclusively from the pocket. He’s pretty athletic when he escapes the pocket which is rare....but he in no way was or is a dual threat qb. He’s 100% a prostyle qb and always has been.
I think that was the birth of “eye test”. The beginning of his whole schtick was another conversation with you over Nkemdiche and how you couldn’t recognize how great he’d be in the NFL...because his stats sucked.I remember D4H commenting on one good run JG had in highschool and declaring him a faster and better runner than Josh Dobbs. Lol. It was my first of many “discussions” with D4H on VN. It was an idiotic statement to make at the time and his play at Tennessee has borne that out.
The loser of that competition isn’t going to stay. Most kids go where they think they’ll be developed best for the next level. Competition at any of those schools is going to be pretty heavy.
