I'm assuming that Kiffin and Lebby were telling the visiting recruits (big weekend for them) that Kiffin was re-upping his contract and Lebby was about to secure the bag and wasn't going anywhere. Certainly Kiffin's contract announcement wasn't a coincidence.Yeah and Ole Miss is prepared to counter as we were told. Either way if he loses Leby I wouldn't be surprised at a reunion of Kiffin and Chaney.
Thanks for explaining the dynamics of how this is working out. But it also helps me understand things from the donor standpoint.See that's the thing and I say this without any silliness, kids are asking this up-front. Also in our meeting the 2 coaches asked this 1st as they were trying to guage what they were up against. When Zach named off like 9 Golesh with a facial expression was like damn. Its not us but something that has to be figured out on the university and athletic department. In my opinion the issue is with all the turn over donors and companies have become tired of the constant in and out of coaches. So there needs to be a meeting of the powers that be in order to get the ball rolling because all it takes is ONE and then the rest will fall in place.

If I were a donor, why would I invest in the interest and potential future of an 18 year old kid when I can invest in academic programs that develop a generation of our society. Especially when these kids have little desire to attend class or demonstrate loyalty to the team or institution. We are to the point now where the tail is wagging the dog.
This is one of the primary reasons that I do not watch professional sports. If this continues in college athletics we will have players firing coaches in the future.
The failure here is the institutions prostituting themselves for championships. They need to choose to either be an academic institution that serves society and enhances the future for our region and state or a professional sports organization that is for entertainment purposes.
You would think that a university with one of the best business schools in the country they would remember that they have a Mission Statement and a strategic plan to serve the state and region. There is a reason that successful academic institutions no longer value the success in college athletics.
If I was to get lucky and be able to explore NIL with UT (miracle) I guarantee I want a bang for my buck and not some quote unquote 5 star and I will come there for this and be a bust and cost me my money. You show me what you can do and we will talk. If they base coming to UT just off NIL funds only take your ass to wherever and No thanks and if anyone thinks it will not be this way with NIL in the future you are fooling yourselves.Honestly, if it comes down to who can pay the most, I'd tell him to piss off, which probably is why I'd lose as a coach. Well, maybe not in those words. I'd sell him on the opportunities here, but this sort of situation screams trouble. It's one thing in the NFL, where there's a clear demarcation line of this being a business and you get paid solely to do your job.
I'm perfectly happy with kids getting paid in an environment where other people are doing so at a high rate. It's merely the motivations of a kid to come play for you. If it's "Well, I like the other school, but I'm going here because I can get 9 deals here and only 5 there.", then I'd rather not. In the end, he has to play ball and I prefer guys who want to play ball here.
Evans is a talent, no doubt. I hope he comes to Knoxville. But, if his #1 question is about money, then pass.
If Ole Miss loses Lebby (god I hope they do), hopefully this opens the door for Evans to look more seriously at us and just trust that the NIL deal stuff will be sorted out by the time he gets to campus in the Spring.
Besides, Chaney (if what de1 said is true) runs a boring and outdated offense. You'd have to have your head buried in the sand to go to Ole Miss and play for Chaney than come here after what we saw this season.
I'm not holding out hope though. Sounds like Evans is the same as Nolen. Doesn't care about the school, just wants the most money. He'd go to Oregon State if they gave him the most.
Lebby would be smart to go to Oklahoma. He would get all the credit for the offense and it could springboard him to a really good HC job if he's successful. Right now I think programs would be a bit cautious of how much of the success on offense at Ole Miss is actually due to Kiffin.Yeah and Ole Miss is prepared to counter as we were told. Either way if he loses Leby I wouldn't be surprised at a reunion of Kiffin and Chaney.
I can agree with this. I think donors have said show me something. But many stepped up for Reno’s and seem to be getting more on board. They need to figure out the NIL money and get to playing with the big boys.See that's the thing and I say this without any silliness, kids are asking this up-front. In this case with Evans, you’re not looking past one season. Accounting for unforeseen injuries, he’s one and done.Understand this however if it is ALL about money, they will transfer to the next school with a higher offer the next year. Someone is going to spend money to get them there with no loyalty. The real money needs to go to the great athletes already on the roster. Are teams having to pay "agents" to make sure the player gets & stays there? Sounds like a cycle that could end badly for both sides. Any suggestions on how this could be handled better?

Read that Ewer kid made 3M on nil at OSU and never played a snap. Portal now.

NIL and the portal are taking CFB in a bad direction. Might as well take all the schools willing and able to pony up huge NIL deals and form their own division and let the rest of CFB remain as what most of us have enjoyed for all these years. I know, not realistic, but I literally HATE what this is becoming. For the first time ever, I didn’t watch a single championship game this past weekend. And reading about how UT has or had opportunity to land multiple big impact players but can’t because our NIL isn’t on par with the big boys, just shows where CFB is headed very quickly. Very depressing as CFB was the last remaining sport I enjoyed watching. Now, not so much.
