'20 TX RB Zachary Evans

I was a D1 athlete and I’ll tell you I definitely don’t want it to be catergorized as employment. When that day comes, call it what it really is (and becoming) and that’s Minor League Football. Move it away from colleges where it doesn’t belong, force the NFL to own their responsibilities, and quit subsiding their league.
This. It is quickly becoming just a minor league.

And honestly, might as well make it that way similar to European clubs. Many opinions from establishing academies to identify young talent and not make their schooling a farce, setup drafts if needed, but most importantly funding from the end beneficiary and that’s the NFL.

This crap right now is the wild Wild West and will not end well if it’s not controlled somehow.

Agree completely.

Personally, sports are entertainment.

Let’s be real here, Evans and most NFL players likely will be financially stable enough to not ever worry about finances again.

The average person can barely afford to buy groceries even with a regular job. That’s not counting millionaires or billionaires whom own these huge cooperations.

Why should we feel the need to give sympathy to student athletes who’ll get paid more to simply throw a ball around?

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be a gifted athlete.

Just because I didn't play d1 sports doesn't mean I don't know anything about it. It's not a job. No matter how you try to make it a job, its not a job. No on we gives two ***** about your opinion any more than mine.

If obviously have absolutely zero ability to logically think, maybe a CTE? These kids asking for this kind of money aren't being paid for their ability to make money in a legitimate marketing where the company invest in them in order to I crease their sales. They're being purchased. If you're too dense to see it then that says something too. All this does is open it up for the cheating and scandal. It's already happening. But hey, as long as the few that will get that big dollars, be damned to the rest. Something tells me you probably wouldn't have even gotten the cookie deal. 🤣
Marketing works by putting your business's name next to the team and university. There are limited opportunities to do so because of licensing limitations. Signing players to NIL deals gives more businesses the opportunity to get their business associated with an entity that creates strong emotional ties - strong emotional ties are one of the motivating factors to sell. If you get to put a poster of let's say Jerome Carvin in your store in a Vols shirt with the name and the UT student athlete moniker, it will illicit the emotional response you're looking for.

And as far as the "cookie deal" - a local business bakery was featured on multiple national telecasts with high local market viewership rates by sponsoring an athlete. If you think that didn't boost the name recognition of a company and thus sales for a company less than five years old, I am not sure what you think would.

People are going to abuse the system - it happens with current marketing in B2B and B2C situations. But ask around a marketing org about how they feel about influencer marketing and whether they think it makes their companies money. McDonald's put BTS on their normal Double Cheeseburger combo with a Sprite and had their single highest grossing month in a decade.

You played soccer. Does that even count as being an athlete? Sheesh
Actually, this is an interesting point you make (with a good natured ribbing). The whole argument on revenue generating sports vs non revenue generating and equitable distribution of monies between sports and (wait for it) genders. I foresee this blowing up into a major Title IX issue (which I despise for the record)

My Nordic track trainer calls me an athlete so @Smyrna ATL Vol can EAD. 😭😭🖕🖕😬😬

Just going back thru this in my head, and instead of just saying what he wanted to say.. de1 used butchna in all of this.... pisses me off

You fool, these kids didn’t set the market

LOL you really talking smack about my abilities when you didn’t. even. play.

Typical moron fan
So fans know nothing? Fans are the only reason there is money being made. It would not matter how great an athlete or how hard they worked if there were no fans. Better hope they continue to be typical moron fans.

I'm 100% good with all that. NIL was for legitimate marketing opportunities. Companies would use an athlete to help secure more business to increase profit. The athlete wins and the business wins. The problem I have are boosters simply buying players. They're giving these kids huge sums of money with no expectations of a return on investment. It's pay for play and nothing else. It like the NFL but with no salary cap. The teams that spend the most will secure the best rosters. Tennessee will be on the losing end of the pay for play scenario. I'm good with players entering into deals for legitimate business opportunities. I'm against boosters simply buying players. It goes against everything that makes college football great.

Typical moron fan bc of one of his comments, not bc he and I disagree on college athletics

Absolutely. But not on the scale its happening now. Cam Newton got $140K. The taxes on these NIL deals will be more than $140K. The OSU qb got $3Mil. Many are getting 7 figures. It's out of control. It's an arms race and you'll never see parity again. TN will never challenge for a championship again. Watch the recruiting rankings. They will directly correlate with NIL.

Which there is already some investigations on the handling of NIL by the NCAA
