It’s actually more straightforward than cheating. Recently Swain said that they frequently contact recruiting offices at the major schools to find out who they have at the top of their boards and use that for ratingsIf there was no such thing as Rivals or 247... Bama would still employ a REAL recruiting service to evaluate players for them... and pursue elite players.
You are operating on the assumption that they find and sign them all and do so because they're 5*. The recruiting sites "cheat" by paying attention to who coaches with a proven record of pursuing the best players... pursues. It took them a while to recognize that Dabo knows talent. He fielded several great teams with elite talent before getting his first top 5 class.
No they wouldn't and it isn't a "scam". Bama and particularly Saban has a proven track record of pursuing and signing great players. It is very safe for the recruiting sites to consider that in their rankings.
Except you are completely wrong in EVERYTHING you just said here. I'm not sure why you are struggling with this concept so much. Bama wins because Saban knows and signs talent.... not because he chases guys that 247 says are 5*. If the consumer recruiting sites did not exist... Saban would still find and sign great talent. If Saban did not exist then the recruiting sites would lose a very valuable "data point" for their evaluations.
