'19 TX WR Isaiah Neyor

Worth pointing out that Texas just hired the WR coach from Pitt who coached Jordan Addison this year. Can’t hurt as a selling point to say your position coach just had the Biletnikoff Award winner.

Fellows none of us know all the facts regarding Heupels board, the infractions, NIL, the potential scholarship reductions pending, etc.
We never had Neyor, last year our WR's exceeded expectations, year 2 we have most key players back at WR and added some promising incoming talent, several 4 star plums

We never had Neyor, perhaps playing against lesser talented players at Wyoming, he looked great,
I am sure that we will move on to some really good WR's still not posted in the portal,
I believe in our coaches
The coaches did all they could. Can't do anything about Texas throwing money at him. But our coaches believed in Neyor, otherwise they wouldn't have prioritized him. We have one, maybe two open scholarships and they picked him to fill one, so they liked his skillset and felt he could bring something to the table. Doesn't mean someone else can't or won't step up at the WR2 position, but our coaches obviously wanted him.

Lack of money has not always been the problem, but lack of plan seems like a constant. Since many prominent supporters seem to have taken their balls and gone home in disgust due to lack of plan, lack of money may now be an issue too.

I think we have lots of money, just not Texas level money.

Hubbs basically admitted on the radio today that we got outbid. He also seemed pretty bummed about it.
No one really knows one way or another, but losing out on an out of state recruit to the flagship university of the recruit's home state is not strange at face value. That's been happening forever, sometimes it works for you, sometimes against. Callahan over at Vols247 says UT is not behind on NIL like people keep assuming, again I don't know what's true and what isn't there but this particular case looked like a tough pull once Texas became involved using traditional analysis. Talkin Vawls is sitting down with Spyre live tonight at 7, should be interesting.

Wow..thanks for posting that, I just had a flood of memories watching that..it is hard to believe it was thirty years ago when that song came out..it feels like yesterday and a million years ago at the same time.

We were young once 😢
It still sounds fresh and some of the covers are good also. I like the Pretenders in particular.

I think there is a very strong chance they don't have a coherent plan regarding the portal. Just because people are "in charge" doesn't mean they have master schemes and plans for everything. Coaches have deficiencies. They just hired the UNC guy because they very likely need help with the portal and want to improve upon that.

I may not know their inner details but we have 1 transfer while the rest of our opponents are filling important gaps with productive players. Our defense is bad. It's very bad. We need secondary and LB help in the worst ways
But didn’t we get a ton of portal players last year? That would tell me they understand it just fine.

UPSIDE !!! I was really excited about UT getting him and now disappointed. Reality is he was probably a ONE YEAR RENTAL as they say. Realistically NOT going to win the East next year. The UPSIDE is the young guys will get HIS splaying time and be more prepared when it matters.

I thought it would be too, but it didn’t turn out that way. He had a Texas visit scheduled as early as the 3rd. USC mods called Texas his leader coming off their visit on the 7th. Then he committed to us on the 8th. It’s not like Texas swooped in late or anything; he committed to us full knowledge that Texas was interested and would take him.

It doesn’t appear as though the allure of the home state (by itself) was too much to overcome. I’m sure it helped, but in the end, it seems like we got outbid.

Probably a plan that does not include NIL and every college has lost any leverage they had because of NIL. In this case, Close to home and more dollars. This will be the standard....

Interesting. I wonder when he got a committable offer from Texas. You may be right in this case, NIL is just everyone's favorite boogyman right now though regardless of what team people root for. I've been reading Auburn boards some lately because I find it fascinating what's going on down there with Harsin and him apparently running off players and coaches alike, and they blame NIL for everything. I think Heupel has done a great job, I just don't think people can discount the headwinds he still faces, through no fault of his own, because of the NCAA crap.

We did, and we didn't get them all in January either, we got many much later, Juwan Mitchell and Brandon Turnage I don't think we got until the summer. Payton was also a couple of months at least after Heupel was hired, same with Joe Milton. Pruitt brought Hooker in before he was fired though.

I think he used us and whatever it was we offered him to play for us as leverage to get a bigger deal out of Texas...simple. If they had not bettered it substantially...I think he would be in Knoxville right now.
