Tyler Baron has entered the portal

My point is, entitlement is taught. Didn’t say nil was
I agree. But a lot of this is just human nature and economics. People are going to go where they perceive the money is.

The bottom line is that the schools have gotten rich without really giving the players a piece of the action. Now they have to reap what they sow and deal with the new reality.

Had to check for myself didn’t believe other poster but TB is not listed on roster so he definitely gone.

That was fast!

Baron coming back to UT would've meant losing at least one younger and more talented guy at his position plus paying him more than he's worth in NIL. The guy has been decent but injury-prone every year until finally somewhat breaking through this season. He's not a lock to be a high impact player. Time to move on. If he was smart, he would enter the draft off a solid season instead of risking a middling injury plagued extra year.

You mean you'd be okay if a company used your name, image, and likeness to make money and you didn't get a cut?
They used their number, which didn’t belong to them anyway. From what I remember they didn’t use their names, and in the early days games weren’t advanced to the point of using anyone’s image

needs to be a dollar limit on this nil crap
When America changes and someone like Peyton can't use his NIL to make as much money as he wants, perhaps it will be fair to say college kids can't either.

Right now, just because you're a college athlete doesn't make you a second class American who has less rights than anyone else.

To be fair . . . He might be going to the NFL and just entered the portal so he could see what his options are.

They actually did their best to copy the size and talent of the players and, perhaps you dislike America and how it works, the courts agreed you can't do that.

Copy the size and talent?? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. How is that even a thing. Unless there is someone who is cloned it would be utterly impossible to copy someone’s talent. On a game especially. Piss poor argument

I think there will be a natural limit on a lot of this. Right now the players are testing the waters, trying to get as much money as they can. The reality is only very few collectives are going to be able to dole out substantial money and they’ll get a lot of the top players, leaving a lot of players who thought they could go out and get big(ger) money left with few options, including getting only what they were getting before. In other words, this will eventually establish a sort of equilibrium on its own to some extent. But I’m fine with athletes getting $$ for their NIL.

What started the issue was schools signing huge media contracts and NCAA football becoming a nationwide entity. That paved the way for the video games to even begin to make money.

And who sued to get those rights? Those "entitled" schools sued the NCAA and then big money came into the sport.

But sure, it was the players, not the schools.

I really do get people not liking it. It’s a huge change in who has the cards. But you’d better embrace the chaos because it’s definitely not going away.

That's definitely the crux of it, I think. I see all this stuff, and all I can think is "what the hell will there be to cheer for in four years?" Especially if they become paid employees who aren't even students anymore. What do I care if a bunch of paid professional dudes in orange beat a bunch of pros in crimson? They won't have any tie to my region, or to Tennessee, or to the school ... so ... what does it matter in the end?

I don't know. I don't see what it matters at that point. And I'm not sure I'll ever embrace that kind of chaos. As far as I can tell, it won't really matter so much anymore.

If social media had been available in the late 60s, can you imagine the chatter with integration of the black athlete into the SEC? Or with Holloway at QB?

That's college sports now. No loyalty expected or given from players or coaches. Absolute loyalty demanded from fans. You're supposed to open up your pockets and pay hundreds or thousands of dollars - or more - to people who will drop you at a moment's notice for a bigger bag.

Feels great, right? Feels awesome. "Vol For Life" -- yeah right. If the bag is big enough.

What's funny is the mood swing on the forum every time some kid commits to or leaves the program. It's essentially living and dying with the decisions of kids visiting the ultimate candy store and chasing the shinier object after every season.

I still love the sport and the games, but everything else - what recruiting has become, the 24-7-365 media frenzy, the crazy overreactions and expectations of fans, the 'natty or bust' mentality - just makes the whole thing less and less appealing.

Okay, I'm done yelling at the cloud.

These kids are running their business same as most coaches.
