Tyler Baron has entered the portal

lol. I don’t think so. Last time he went portal he was a priority to get back. He’s done nothing but prove his worth on the field with his play. Maybe I’ve forgotten how to judge Dline though. 😂
We were also at a totally different point as a program too. Again don’t think they want him to leave, but I don’t expect them to offer an absurd amount either

You’re off the mark. He is good enough to be doubled by most of our competitors, and still managed 27 pressures. He’s a high caliber SEC DL. He will be missed. Rodney has some principles about compensation for his players and he doesn’t like certain players being rewarded more than others. Last year when Baron wanted to look, Garner told him best wishes. He came back. This year, my guess is that the grass will be greener and he’ll get paid. He also may go pro or may come back. His draft grade is right on the edge of go/stay.
Don’t try talking actual sense in here.

Don’t think they told Baron to walk and we shall see who we get. We lost a 5 star tackle to friggin Colorado and a blow hard coach. That’s the one that really hurt. Can you say Colorado??
Sure doesn’t sound like they begged him to stay

Joe wasn’t the best option we had. That is obvious. If you say things like that, you’re not smart. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Sorry but I will trust Heupel on this one. If Josh didn’t think Nico was the best option yet, I am not going to disagree. 11 and 2 will earn you some leeway in the following season IMHO

You just gave away why you can’t just pay all of these HS recruits anything they want without having other roster issues.

But I know we will keep having the same ones on here say we need to pay the HS recruits whatever it takes to land them.
Right... next thing you know a gallon of milk is 8 dollars and regardless what you make it ain't enough. A lot of people are living in fantasy world and think money grows on trees.

needs to be a dollar limit on this nil crap
That's unconstitutional. This is settled law and why the NCAA didn't fight when it actually happened. Every person has a right to their name, image, and likeness and has the ability to sell it for as much as they want. Take that socialist, everyone gets this much because it's fair trash out of here. You earn as much as you can pull, that's your right.

You think they are given NIL to play ball but they are not. That maybe a dynamic for it, but they EARN NIL and do advertisements, promote products, and general influencing. You have zero business telling someone that they cannot make their weight in gold if they are capable of doing so. Hot trash take indeed.

You would loose your **** if someone cut off your ability to earn.

I think he’s had an average season and OOC play skewed some of the numbers and “eye test.”

Again, not worth throwing a bunch of money at to get to stay, because I think his numbers at the very least can be replicated by a replacement.

Somebody has gotten Baron’s attention. Welcome to College Football 2024. It really is all about the $$$ and tampering now. Loyalty has gone the way of the Dodo Bird. This is just like the NFL. You won’t know what your roster is going to look like until the week before the first game. Might as well forget watching players for four years. Don’t know how coaches can function now when you have to recruit high schoolers, portal transfers and re-recruit existing players to stay. It is absolutely off the rails.

Bowl games? Might as well forget those. We may be down to the scout team by the time the Citrus Bowl rolls around. Unless they change their mind, we lost two defensive starters today. Said it last year and I’ll say it again. Bowl games are a nice diversion but the results mean little to nothing anymore.

Ever since the playoff was started and the money got out of control, bowl games have become nothing more than an exhibition game for the following season.

Prob wants to play for a team that is interested in building a defense that isn’t on the field 85% of the time.

Just like the last time he did this, Baron probably just wants more NIL money. I suspect he will get it from Spyre Sports Group and return to Tennessee .... again. Baron is just working the system. It's the new normal in college athletics.

Hope so. But also hope it won't be like this for long.

That doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't he just go pro?
Probably got a bad post season draft grade that all prospects can get from NFL scouting services. My guess he was projected to be a late rounder/possibly a FA. I'm sure he is after more money. He'll likely get more, but probably not substantially more.

Wow this sucks but..... unlike years past I think we will be ok? We have tons of edge guys on the roster that need snaps. Josephs, Bradley, both Herrings probably some guys I'm forgetting plus whoever we have coming in in recruiting class and portal. It will hurt but most expected him to leave anyway just to the NFL.

I just can’t imagine what it must be like to walk back into a locker room and try and settle back in with the teammates you just threatened to abandon .

I love TN football but it wouldn't be devastating for me to walk away from college football....I walked from NFL, NBA, & MLB years ago when they went woke. I have grandkids now and free time on Saturdays would be put to good use!

Yeah, no thanks. College football has reached the point of absurdity. Beyond tickets and the occasional Smokey Dog or Petro's in the stadium, no way am I inclined to funnel a penny to mercenaries.
"Funnel a penny to mercenaries?" Don't you mean "make a donation"? Think about the children!
