Tyler Baron has entered the portal

I kinda like the old days when recruits came in because they wanted to play and get an education from a particular college.
College football has became a business and it’s seems to be only money driven and no player seems to have an allegiance to a team and what it means to lay it all out there a call their Team a team.
Now we hear where major colleges can offer 30K to each player regardless of their participation which seems to be fair when one player gets millions to play and the others get nothing.
We then wonder what causes locker room issues when some players roll in with shiny new cars and others have to take the bus.
I’m of an opinion college football will be forever changed, but this being said, it’s hard to blame a young man when he can earn a basket of cash.
Just my opinion….
It’s a giant whore house

Help me understand......he transfers for his last year and let's say he gets $500,000 for 1 year. He goes pro and gets drafted in say the 3rd round for $400,000 per year on a 4 year contract. Where's the benefit of taking the NIL money over the NFL money? If he takes the NIL deal and gets hurt, there goes a lot of money out the window....
I don't know, but sounds like going pro when you have the chance makes more sense ....

so he was here, we went 8-4. and now he's gone. No story. Goodbye. "Dominate" player that faded away in games. So what good is that? 8-4

We don't need Tyler Baron, we need leaders. Men to step up and set the standard. We need a dog, we need a boss.

NIL money is not the issue, UT has lotto dollars. We need to recruit some Alphas.

If he receives third round grade in the pre-draft process, he’ll definitely go pro. At this point, he’s listed as an undrafted free agent by most sites.

Also, if I recall correctly, most football contracts aren't guaranteed.

I like it. We had 0 leadership this year on that sideline. Coaches or players. Heupel doesn’t seem like the coach that can rally players, give a fiery speech, and get everyone going. We need someone to step up and do that. My biggest complaint this year was the team laying down. No fire, no drive.

Probably would end up doubled teamed all year on the 2024 line at Tennessee, hard to get the necessary exposure to increase the in season draft stock when you are on a middle of the road SEC defense, with no realistic indications that things will be markedly different next season,

Defense has been a question mark since Heupel got here and he has got to have a competitive defense as well as a competitive offense or Tennessee will simply be a training program for defenders who will go to more competitive programs at some point during their tenure at Tennessee

I lost respect for him over the course of the season watching him do dumb stuff. Reminds me of Jeremy Banks in that regard. Good player but if we were elite he’d be a depth piece. If Pearce and Josephs/Bradley each put on another 15 pounds we won’t miss him and likely improve.

Defense was a disaster the day JH was hired. Most of us doubted they’d be able to tackle anyone in ‘21. Unfortunately many “fans” think Heupel walked into a defensive room like Ga, Ala or LSU had. Hell, it wasn’t much better than Vandy.

That's college sports now. No loyalty expected or given from players or coaches. Absolute loyalty demanded from fans. You're supposed to open up your pockets and pay hundreds or thousands of dollars - or more - to people who will drop you at a moment's notice for a bigger bag.

Feels great, right? Feels awesome. "Vol For Life" -- yeah right. If the bag is big enough.
Loyalty is not a one-way street. If the players look at this board, they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the fans will throw THEM overboard if they don't play well in a heartbeat!

AP had been hinting Chandavian Bradley was getting looks at TE. This most likely thumps that experiment, if true.

IMO he would be undrafted FA, that gives you some token money for a short time but UDFAs are a dime a dozen and you go to the wrong organization and you are in the general public work force soon, thinking maybe I should finish my degree. This pay sucks or darn I thought with my degree I'd be making 3 figures right off the bat this working world sucks. Can I have a redo.

As does every engaged fan base. This isn’t a UT thing.

It's not like the money is "magically" appearing and these kids are responsible for the offers they're getting.

It's grown men running these collectives and making these offers, not college kids. I don't know about you but if someone offered me a Hellcat to drive and several thousand dollars while I played football for them in college, I'm taking it. It's really hard to blame the players here is my point.

It's fine to not be in favor of it but realize the trade off. We could shut down Spyre tomorrow and stop this NIL madness at UT. You won't like that either.
Obviously. We have to pay to play. Anyone who wants to be competitive has to. Just saying I hate the combination of the portal and NIL

They’re not mutually exclusive in some packages. They rushed Pearce from the SDE and Josephs from the Leo occasionally.
True. And I could see Josephs playing more SDE, especially if he continues to add weight. But we're definitely thinner at TE than SDE. And Baron leaving wasn't really a surprise. I think they were probably planning on him not being here next year....just that he'd enter the draft instead of the portal.

Nonetheless, I wish we'd go get an SDE out of the portal. Prince Umanmielen makes too much sense.

Interesting take. When I first heard the news, I thought about how the recruits we are targeting might interpret Baron’s decision to leave the program. What were his motives? Only he knows, of course, but I speculate that he may be thinking that leaving to another defensive staff and/or scheme might improve his draft status. In other words, staying in Tim Banks’ defense and being coached by Rodney Garner won’t improve his draft status.

Pardon me for perhaps being an oracle of the obvious, but my guess is that this is all about money, that is, his future earnings in the NFL. Only he knows his reasoning but, to me, turning your back on Rodney Garner is a big deal, especially if you are your team’s best defensive player. Baron voted with his feet on both Banks and Garner, it seems to me. This may hurt us with some defensive recruits.

But we’re talking CONVERSIONS and Okoye is further along in that class. And DEPTH at Leo is always needed. Harrison gone and Herring onboard.
