can we kick pearl off the team too. then maybe we can get a coach to put us in contention for a NC instead of some big talking cheerleader who can't coach offense, or defense, or get his guys to train, or play the "pressure D bruce pearl style"... and since he doesn't want to coach effort... and can't recruit guys who are self-motivated beyond smokin weed... we might as well fire the coach while were at it.

It's obvious some horrible decisions were made in this case....sounds like Tyler is getting ready to pay for his.

The open container is the LEAST of my worries and is probably the dumbest law on the books. I could care less if there was an open container. If Tatum wasn't drinking, then he is clear of that as far as I am concerned. The pot and illegal guns are another matter.

They didn't give Tatum a breathalyzer test did they? If so, does it really matter that they had an open container in the car, as long as he wasn't drinking? Aren't they all 21 or older?

Tyler leaving is probably the best thing that could come out of this. He's a senior anyways and it was probably a last contribution type of thing. If Brian Williams survives this, I believe he'll be kicked off sooner or later for failing drug test. If he smokes as much pot as I hear, how in the world has he gotten by this far?

Exactly.

Although the guns are more of a concern. The pot is just a misdemeanor.

Didn't mama teach you not to plagiarize?

Jeez guys, I have never seen UT fans this hysterical over an incident in my 25 years supporting the Vols. Calm down and think a little rationally. All four are not equally guilty, quit saying that. There was a lot of stupidity going on there, but being in the presence of guns and actually owning the guns are different levels of culpability. In a perfect world, yes, Tatum and Goins say they will ride the bus or whatever, but, in reality, few people would do this. Throw in the fact that some have a history and some don't. Based on those factors, to me, it seems that Tyler should definitely go, Brian should, as well, whereas Goins and Tatum will have suspensions.

Personally, I think some of you just want the kids removed to set an example or have some kind of release for your anger, which is the wrong way to handle the situation if you are Pearl. Fans are way too emotional and reactionary and this incident proves it to me. People seem to have this need to feel good about themselves rooting for the team that supersedes what should actually happen to the kids if you are dealing with them on a day to day basis.

Ah, a voice of reason. Some fans always think it's about THEM.

They tell the kids in advance when the drug tests will be...

I was there and went through those drug tests.

They don't tell you when it's happening. Fun rumor though. Almost as fun as the guy standing there watching the pee come out of your ... :)

Maybe some of the coaches do say something. A good friend of mine was an athlete and he smoked so much that I always wondered how he stayed on the team. When I asked he told me his coach would give him a heads up before he had to take a test. Maybe your old coach played things straighter? IDK

Good post Unumame. Open container gets charged against the driver regardless of if was their booze or not. In most states it's a $50 fine. A citation hardly worth getting kicked off a basketball team. As far as the drugs, student athletes get a few second chanches which many athletes in every sport and every institution utilize. Stupid yes, but not that big a deal. The guns go to far. I wish Tyler (If true) the best and adios.

I have no problem with guns. The altered serial numbers are the problem. Dismissals for mutilpe serious offenses are the right thing. I hope that they can turn themselves around and do the right thing. If they apologize and do so, they have my support. Otherswise, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Go Vols, beat Charlotte.

I'm not going to act like that's not possible. All I know is I had a creepy dude staring at my member every time we had the tests. Talk about stage fright!

It was really funny too because once you enter the training room on drug test days, you aren't allowed to leave until you leave a sample. We'd have guys that would lock up so hard they'd be in there from 6:00 to nearly noon hoping to be able to squeeze out a few drops under pressure.
