Tyler Smith - Gone (confirmed)

Congrats. I'm happy for you. Everyone isn't the same. If you'd like everyone to be the same then move to China.

You need a life if you care about how this affects your diploma. One person is affecting your life that you've never met. Sad dude.

I have met Tyler..a few times. This doesn't affect my diploma, I earned it. It affects the image of the university where I received my diploma.

Obviously you've never been to China. There is greater class distinctions and disparity there than here. But be patient, Obama and Hillary are catching us up real quik.

I don't even care if he is kicked off the team. I wasn't happy when it first happened because of the team but anymore, I just want him to get his life on track. If that makes me stupid then I guess I am.

I've not heard anyone say kick him out of school. The point is kick him off of the team. Bball is a privilege not a right. Obviously he still hasn't gotten enough education.

hearing that Cam Tatum will be retained...he was the DD and not aware of the guns until after they had left Nashville on their way back to Knoxville. The rest...I think are all gone.

Kick them all off, seriously. It's not like this team was in contention for a NC anyways. This has to end, kick them all off.

Foolish comments!!! Tatum will be back, he was only the designated driver while the rest enjoyed News Years. If the guns where Tyler's he should go, but the rest should serve a suspension of some sorts and earn their way back!! Kicking them all off would be kneejerk reaction. None of these players have been in any trouble while at UT. Give them a break Sargent Friday!!!!

That's fine. I am okay with that. I am just saying I don't care about all of the insults. He is part of the Tennessee family. Blacksheep or not.

Also, you can't just assume he does these things based off education. Everyone is wired different emotionally. Some people get depressed and kill themselves and others get over it. My friends dad shot himself in the head and he seemed to cope with it just fine. My girlfriend of years left me and moved out and I was a wreck. His problems were a lot worse and he handled them better than I handled my situation.

We(Tennessee fans) can be mad at him but most people need people the most when their life is screwed up. Not when they are on top. We were there with him for the good, we should be there with him for the bad.

Having a gun with the serial number filed off typically makes you a shady character.

Maybe, but more idiotic and risky than anything. From a moral perspective, it depends on if he filed it himself or bought it like that. From a criminal standpoint, it doesn't (and shouldn't) matter. I admit, it would be tempting to buy a perfectly functional firearm for next to nothing from the scrappy looking guy in the alley, but logical long-term thought of the consequences ultimately prevails.

Either way, it may be a major mistake on his part, but he knew what he was doing. He knew the risks involved. If the OP's info is true, Tyler's future is obvious.

Actually the elephant in the room with a filed down SN is why it was filed down. Unless you think you can sell a story about how you're really, really into numerology and that sequence of numbers gave you the heebee jeebies (good luck with that) there simply is no answer that doesn't explicitly imply illegal activity. It's almost a slam dunk (sorry) it's stolen. Why else deface it? It's some pretty bad mojo.

I'm not sure that these guys were still celebrating new years eve the next day at noon, especially when there were illegel fire arms in the car. Saying Tatum is innocent is like saying the bank robber's get away driver is innoncent too.

Haven't seen it anywhere but Volquest.....I was really expecting to hear it by now.....Maybe not, i'm not sure. Although I do see on knoxnews that they got the results back from the finger prints on the guns today.

If Tyler Smith is the only one kicked off the team that is good news. I honestly wasn't expecting more than 1 or 2 of the players to be back. The only real issue in this situation is the guns. Whoever takes responsibility for the guns is the one who will be gone and I have to agree with that decision. The other misdemeanors (weed and beer) are not serious offenses and should be treated as such.

I agree (re-read the sentence after the one in bold). He needs the boot. But does possession of an altered/stolen firearm imply use of the weapon with criminal intent in the future? Maybe, maybe not... I'm just trying to figure out Tyler's reasoning and intent for possessing such a firearm.

In vogue, unfortunately.

I doubt any announcement about any dismissals or suspensions would happen today on the day of a game. Maybe tomorrow.

There is no gun registry in tennessee which may have an impact on that rumor.

Let me see. Some of you think just possessing a gun should get you thrown off the team? Bunch of wuss Easterners that think guns are inherently bad, so punish the owner. When did Tennessee get taken over by liberal gun fearing tools that blame the gun instead of considering the use. If they are thrown off the team and the gun possession turns out not to be illegal or prosecuted, I hope they sue the school and Pearl for 50 million dollars. If there was good reason to believe they had or were going to do something criminal I would agree to throw them out.

I am a white bigot and it seems clear to me that some of you are just afraid for some black guys to have a gun. You seem to think all black guys with guns threaten you personally when they are sitting in their car. Your lynch mob fearful mentality is a little scarey.

Ignorance is bliss.

What part of filed off serial numbers do you not understand?

If Tyler had a gun and a permit to carry it, then there would be no issue. None.

When he has a throw-away with no serial numbers, then there are issues, especially with weed and alcohol.

You may not be Sherlock Holmes, but do a little deductive reasoning.

Weed + alcohol + illegal firearm = ____________________.

Voldaddy,

What part of fairness and justice do you not understand. Inform yourself about American principles of Law.

They have not been pled, tried or ajudicated. They have a right to be innocent until they are found guilty of something by a jury of their peers. This crap you quote is charged and uncharged stuff. It is not crimes that they are guilty of until found so.

I hope someday you have the opportunity to be assailed by people on this blog. Maybe you will be innocent and they will find you "guilty" and hang you in writing every day all day long. Fools like you imperil our American freedoms.
