Tyler Smith

Brent Hubbs talked about Tyler Smith on the Sports Animal last night and said that the Vols are interested in Tyler Smith. The reason that Rodney Alexander did not come in this weekend is because TN basically told him that they were not interested in him anymore. Brent said that if Pearl didn't think he had a chance at Tyler, he would have taken Alexander. He said TN is putting all their eggs in the Tyler Smith basket. Tyler was suppose to meet with Licklighter a couple of days ago. I guess we will know something soon. I really didn't think that he would come to TN, but the rumors have gone on too long. Where there is smoke there is fire.

I'm still incredulous, but if it did happen, how long would he have to sit out before he was eligible?

If he wins his hardship case, he can play next season without missing any time. If not, then he'll sit out and take a redshirt next season, and be a RS sophomore for the 2008-2009 season.

Tyler Smith = Prodigal Son

The whole "Tyler Smith" deal was the one thing I thought Pearl had maybe sort of mishandled in his brief tenure here. I didn't really like the fact that he held Smith hostage and forced him to go to a prep school. But if Smith ends up coming to Tennessee, Pearls comes off looking good -- like a wise old father whose child went astray, but was welcomed back with open arms. Pearl is the man!

Brent Hubbs said last night that he would qualify for the hardship and would more than likely get to play without having to sit out.

I don't know if Tyler necessarily went astray, but it would be a story of reconciliation for both. And it could add up to a pretty sick team.

Having to say Goodbye to Dane and Hello to Tyler isn't as bad as it sounds. Welcome to Orange Country Tyler. We may not miss a beat if he can fit in, here's hoping he will make the adjustment.:clapping:

Scout.com just posted something today that Tyler Smith may be coming to TN. Can't read it though. Can anyone summerize what it says?

Mishandled? All he required of Tyler Smith was that he MEET with him. Pearl said if he was going to release Smith he just wanted to have a meeting and that was all Smith, and his dad, had to do. His dad would not allow it, from most accounts. Tyler Smith had a meeting with the new coach at Iowa. That is all Pearl was asking for.

I said "sort of mishandled." I'm not totally bashing Pearl because you're right, all Smith had to do was meet with him. But I don't think it was right for Pearl to force the issue and (eventually) make the guy completely put his college education/career on hold simply because he didn't want to meet with him. IMHO, Pearl should have just said, "Well, I wish you'd hear my case ... but hey, if you don't want to give me an opportunity, so be it. Good luck in the cornfields."

I know there has been much discussion on this topic already, so we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. But hey ... like I said ... I love The Pearl! PR/Marketing machine that he is, he's not perfect ... but I'd take him over any coach in America.

Per Jerry Meyer of Rivalshoops.com
" I'm hearing it is very likely, Smith will be at Tennessee and possibly be eligible for next season."

Meyer is a Rivals' "expert". He is very conservative on predictions and rarely says something unless it is pretty concrete. He also has pretty good connections in the midwest.

Maybe it's just b/c I miss basketball already, and it's mid-April, but I'm kind of stunned by this and trying to wrap my head around what this would mean for Tennessee's lineup next season. I guess we should wait until something actually happens.

Kesling: Smith inbounds the pass to Smith. Smith brings the ball up court and passes to Smith who shoots a three. Smith is off the mark, but the ball is rebounded by Smith who puts it back in for two.

Bert: Money!!!

A third Smith would be a nightmare for Bob K.

That's funny. Also, the P.A. announcer would then have three people who must always be identified by their first and last names. Perhaps the opponents will be confused.

People your forgetting some things

1. UT would have to appeal to the NCAA if T. Smith wants to transfer to UT

Do you not remember the reporting of violations last time around and the dis-association of a booster.

There is alot of red tape even before the thought becomes reality

I don't understand why a dissociated booster's past violations would impact this situation.

I'm not forgetting anything 67.

Rob Lewis stated:
"My understanding is that it has already been checked into and there are no obstacles to the transfer as a result of the secondary violation being self-reported."

The crazy thing is that not only would we have the 3 Smiths, but we also would have landed Kiwan Smith last year had it not been for him having such bad grades.

All 3 would be All SEC caliber next year too in this system. A lineup of Ramar, Lofton, Jujuan, Tyler, and Chism would be tight, especially since the backups wouldn't be bad either(Howell, Tabb, Tatum, Prince, Crews, Childress, Williams).
