Rather than pray for the married man who used his position of power to take advantage of a young women, can someone please think of the victim during this time. She is the one who is going to need help. Men who prey on their subordinates, be it teacher/student, coach/player, boss/employee, doctor/patient, clergy/parishioner, etc., do not need our sympathy. The victim will be in my thoughts and prayers tonight, not the predator responsible for this violation of trust. As the parent of a college student, I also feel sympathy for the young lady's family who put their trust in a university and coach, only to be betrayed in this way. Just because this act was perpetrated by the son of highly respected coach does not make the act any less egregious. I also feel sorry for Tyler's mother because I know she raised him better than this.

I wouldn't go that far. She is probably 22 or 23. He is 25. This isn't some old powerful coach taking advantage of a 18 or 19 year old fresh out of high school. They probably got caught and had to fess up more than her being victimized.

Sad story....without having the orange glasses on because of his mom, can he actually coach or did he get a job because of his last name?

If a 25 year old female coach for a men's college team had sex with a 22 year old on her team would he be considered a victim?

Yes! Their ages and genders are irrelevant. The issue is that Tyler was in a position of authority and the young lady was his subordinate. Without the words ever being spoken, in situations such as this it is implied that if you want to play, you will submit. If you submit, good things will happen for you on my team. The young lady cannot make an impartial decision about the relationship because there will always be issues of power and privilege involved. This is a very different issue from a married man/woman meeting a girl/guy at a bar and deciding to have a fling. Because of the underlying issues of power and authority, such relationships are forbidden in most schools, universities, workplaces, professions, military, etc.

There's another player being mentioned. She also transferred to LA Tech from Marquette.

I guess Tyler was quite the hound... Nice way to derail a career. This is classic entitlement behavior. Those who are given the most (often through nepotism) are the most cavalier with their opportunities.

Neither do women who prey on their subordinates, be it teacher/student, coach/player, boss/employee, doctor/patient, clergy/parishioner, etc., do not need our sympathy. Let's not be sexist.

Agreed

Coaches are in position of higher influence than any other authority figure IMO

I would go that far. Any person who is in a position of power (HEAD COACH) is ethically bound not to take advantage of the position. Sadly it happens all to often.

My apologies. I was specifically addressing the issue of Tyler and the young female player(s). I agree with you 100%.

There was an article today about a female teacher in Utah who had sex with three of her male students. She doesn't understand why the parents are upset because one of the boys actually got better grades after having sex with her! Of course she rewarded him for his performance! What is this world coming to?

Victim???

You can't be serious.

You do know what the word "victim" means, right? If he used his position to coerce her, then yes she is a victim, but until more details emerge, she's a legal adult in what was (probably) a consensual relationship with somebody maybe 3-4 years older than her at the most. Summitt may be an unethical idiot, but he's broken no law of this land.

I must have missed the part where he used his position of power and privilege to force her to transfer to La Tech, then threatened to cut her from the team if she didn't have sex with him. Guess I also missed the part where she filed a complaint or reported this to, well, anybody.

A law does not have to be broken for someone to be a victim. A relationship cannot truly be consensual when it is between a person wielding power and his/her subordinate. In the back of her mind, there will always be the thoughts of the consequences and repercussions if she were to say no. Their age differences and genders are not relevant. What is at issue here is that Tyler was in a position of power over the player(s) with whom he had a relationship.

At least there is a spot available on Holly's staff.

This is so sad what else can happen to Pat and her family? He has just flushed his promising coaching career down the toilet. I still think he was too close to the age of his players to be a head coach, because I have seen the same thing happen in high schools involving young men coaching young girls. I pray that somehow this does not cause Pat's condition to worsen. I also pray for the entire family. This is a real shock.

It is enough to make you cry, REALLY!!!
