Tyler Summitt resigns

How do you know he pursued her? She could have been the aggressor since she followed him to another school. You are assuming a lot here to make her out a be victim.

I'll with hold an opinion at this point until more facts come to light. If she is a victim then he should be dealt with accordingly. If not then she owns a lot of resonsibility also.

It does not matter. Whoever holds the position of power is responsible so any improper relationship happens it is the person in the position of power fault. This is true both ethically and legally. My profession requires ethics training ever three years just to address this type of issue.

Not sure what constitutes "quality" report but here is where I saw it.

As far as when their relationship started I have seen no such report

Sources: Tyler Summitt impregnates player - Swish Appeal

I used "reports" loosely meaning rumors on Twitter. I saw that article and that's the only outlet willing to put their name on something at this point. I don't care if she's preggers or not though. There's a lot of smoke that it's an ongoing thing that started perhaps even before his marriage so I doubt this is a "pay for play" scenario. It was a fling gone horribly wrong.

FTR I never said "quality report" not sure where that came from. The post you quoted of mine said "major outlet". No major outlet has jumped on it yet.

Ridiculous that she is a victim? Do you also think that women that wear skirts and get raped were asking for it????

WTF.

You don't think the fact that he was an authority figure is a factor? I'll play along here - maybe they are deeply in love and get married and have kids (which is apparently going to happen regardless) and celebrate their 50th anniversary one day. Then we can all look back at this in 2066 and say "I remember when it all started between them."

But right now he is in a position of authority and has control over two things the player wants/needs - scholarship and playing time.

Time will tell how this all plays out, but to sit here today and say it's ridiculous to think the player is not a victim is not cool.

She was a grown ass woman who is responsible for her own actions. Unless you are implying that he forced himself on her, she made a conscious decision to freely engage in consensual sex. She owns it as much as he does.

Now, given it was her coach who was married, you can label her as a slut, homewrecker, or simply an opportunistic horny young lady (whichever you prefer given your values).

The one thing you can't label her as is a victim. Not only is she not a victim, but assigning such a label to her cheapens what real victims of sexual abuse endure.

The point I was making is it's so hard to applaud someone for taking responsibility for something it appears they had no choice because they are caught red handed

I don't understand that thinking

Is Jennifer Azzi's new wife a victim? Should she have been terminated for forcing an assistant to have a relationship with her? What if the assistant would have said no? Maybe she felt pressured to keep her job so she said ok to the relationship.

But we don't know if she's pregnant or not either, that's my point. It's likely true though just as the longevity of the affair is.

I don't think it really matters

Do we really think he comes clean and resigns without being caught?

I think there is a better chance i win the lottery tomorrow and I havnt bought a ticket

I get that misery loves company is a cliche'...maybe some should stop wallowing in it though.

Time to stop now.

There are plenty of rumors and gossip that this story will get even worse in the near future.

I feel sorry for Tyler's wife. She deserved much better from the man she married.

I feel sorry for Pat. She deserved better from the son that she taught right from wrong.

I feel sorry for the LA Tech player's parents. They deserved better from the man to whose authority and care they entrusted their daughter.

I feel sorry for the other LATech WBB players, as they will now be hounded by the media and their parents and friends who want to know what they know and when they knew it.

But I do not feel sorry for...

Tyler... for there is nothing that excuses or mitigates his actions.

The LA Tech administration... for their grandstanding hire of a 23 year old when there were literally hundreds of better qualified candidates they could have chosen for a head coaching job with a $175,000 annual salary plus perks.

First of all my condolences to all involved in this mess.... It is not easy and nobody comes out a winner..... I feel for Tyler, his wife, mother, father, the young lady, her family and friends, the whole La Tech basketball family and everyone else affected by this happening.

I want to express my feeling on this, even though from reading all the comments, I realize I may well be in the minority,.... but I feel strongly about it.....

Tyler is totally responsible for this. And if for no other reason, he is the one with the control and the power. The woman has no power. None.

It does not matter who the aggressor was. That is immaterial. There is a structure in place. Tyler was head of the program. So if he took liberties with her, it is his fault. If the whole thing was consensual, it is his fault as well because as the one with vested responsibility for the program, he shoulders that weight.

Now, if the young lady is the aggressor, Tyler is still responsible for this bad behavior. And what he should have done if this was the case...... is report the incident as soon as it happened, or if relationship,..... as soon as the relationship started..... and pull back, recuse himself from any dealings with the young woman, and let the university disciplinary board and athletic department sort the whole thing out.

Regarding the term "victim" ..... of course the young lady is a victim..... even if she was the chaser. Because of what I already said, that Tyler held all the cards, and he was vested with responsibility of doing the right thing..... which he clearly didn't. When we think of "victim" we think of it sometimes purely in emotional terms..... for purposes of this posting.... I am just saying that by definition .... she is a victim.....

And again..... my heart goes out to all who have been affected.

Yep. But many around here think he should get a pass because they were close in age and his last name.

Can't wait to hear Mickey tomorrow morning. I'm sure that him and Heather will come up will all sorts of excuses that we haven't even thought of.

a hundred bucks he ignores the entire thing. i bet he won't even acknowledge the whole thing.

All I can say is I assume you don't have any daughters or nieces and do not believe their is such a thing as predator behavior or 'grooming' and cannot understand why domestic violence victims don't just leave or that if it isn't a punch then it cannot be abuse and if there is no blood it can't be rape, and have never heard of a real case of harassment in the work place.

After reading through the comments on this thread, one thankful thought came to mind.

I do not know 99.9% of you.

Let's keep it that way.

I am heart broken and disappointed for that to come from pat son. Everyone was looking at what a young guy will become as a coach. And he's married. Why getting your own player pregnant. This is a big sad news.

Soo, sad.. This boy is stupid! Always quoting the bible all the time. And he got her pregnant lawd.. Someone who should be thanking God because of his mom sake he was given a chance for head coach making over $200,000. I feel bad for LA Tech, cause they be tried looking for coaches all the time.
