U.S. citizens kidnapped in Mexico

I just read a story that made me a little suspicious that a tummy tuck was the only reason for this trip. The wife of the living male said her husband didn't tell her what he was there for....... Just that he was going there to "help friends".

Maybe it's a coincidence but an ambiguous statement like that typically means nefarious intent.

Some of that has already happened, but not sure about tourist fatalities as of yet. Running gun battles through Acapulco, gun fight on one of the beaches in Cancun, etc. I MIGHT take the family to Cabo, but nowhere else in Mexico. I’m still amazed we have young Americans that drive through Mexico and camp out in their vans at out of the way beaches.
As an American I no longer feel safe in any part of Mexico.
My tourist dollars will be spent elsewhere.

I’ve been a little skeptical. Medical tourism is real. Matamoros would not be considered a hot spot for medical tourism though.

Labeling the cartels terorrist ordinations opens up a whole new toolkit, including seizing their assets worldwide.

I think AQ had vaguely been linked to about 200 deaths in Egypt by 1996. We shut down the Embassy in Khartoum, seized everything but Osamas boxers and the Sudanese government kicked him out. If Osama had been growing smack instead of smuggling weapons, he’d still be Alive hanging out in Africa. The US and Mexican governments haven’t taken the steps you mentioned because there’s too much for both to lose.

I'm having doubts about the Americans killed in Mexico story. Supposedly they drove from NC all the way to Brownsville, TX where they crossed the border so one woman that was 33 years old could get a tummy tuck after birthing 6 kids. Three day drive for most of us. They get shot up and people are outraged over it. I'm thinking there might a little more to this than people are told, i.e. it's BullSh!t

Cuba suffered a lot without US tourists and businesses. Shut the border down and don't allow travel to Mexico and see how fast Mexico changes its tune about getting the place under control. We've tried cooperation; now try hitting Mexico where it hurts.
My gawd... you're a neocon on steroids.

2 ideas:
1. Prohibit any money being sent to Mexico from America until they get their corrupt shinola hole in order. If they can protect tourist resorts they can protect other areas.
2. Allow "unapproved" procedures on Indian reservations in America which negates the need to travel outside the US.
Is an Indian reservation where you went for your penile implant surgery?

Asking for a friend....

@VolStrom Have you had a chance to use your portable Starlink yet? How did it work? Worth the money?
I haven't even unboxed it. They instantly went up to $150/mo right after I got it and I decided I'll wait until I have a need before I activate it. It is rather compact and I think it will be worth the money once I get out in a fringe area. One thing I did do was buy a "flag pole buddy" to mount it up over the roof of my RV, if you're looking at one, you should check that out.

Wife and I love Cancun and never had any issues or felt unsafe.

Haven't been back to Cancun in several years. From what some have said recently, high(er) end resorts are still fine, but if you used to go into old Cancun and hit the watering holes, they're saying that's not so much a safe bet anymore.

It's been several years since I've been in the interior of Mexico but once you got 50-100 miles away from the border it wasn't bad.
I’ve been to San Luis Potosí multiple times - it’s 400+ miles from Laredo. Didn’t want to **** around at night, but nothing you couldn’t handle without a guide.

So you mean legalization?
Legalization here won't shut down the cartels. It would however likely curb the violence associated with them. More like a tame mafia system with territories instead of the wild west.

It would improve things there for sure. But the fentanyl being smuggled through there is the real issue right now.

they will just turn to other lucrative money makers, most likely illicit. Kidnapping is one of those, so we are right back to this problem.

Yes but then the problem only rests with people who choose to travel there. They aren’t coming to SW VA to kidnap people. But they have no problem shipping them fentanyl.

There is a lot at stake already. Not sure what OBL has to do with anything.
We are a Big Dog,,and you put an admin in charge with a spine, it would be curtailed drastically.

Growing up there I know why they aren't coming to SW VA.

I was agreeing with you that they should be put on the watch list and pointing out that others have been for much less. Eat a Snickers.
