U.S. Navy Not Fit For War

Woke 'submarine spies' first offered secrets to unknown foreign power two YEARS ago and wanted to meet their operatives for DRINKS: Believed they were going to be 'extracted' from the US, court documents reveal

A Navy nuclear submarine engineer smuggled secret documents out of work page-by-page to sell to foreign spies, invited them to meet him for a drink, and thanked them for offering to 'extract' him from the US, court papers claim.

Jonathan Toebbe, 42, and his wife, Diana Toebbe, 45, are accused of violating the Atomic Energy Act - which restricts the disclosure of information related to atomic weapons or nuclear materials.

The couple, from Annapolis in Maryland, allegedly attempted to provide information relating to stealth technology for nuclear submarines to an unidentified foreign nation.

I could understand two subs colliding underwater more than I can one of the most advanced subs on earth running into an underwater mountain.
Why do think we're selling them to the Aussies? They suck.

Why do we not hang people for this kind of thing anymore? Or drop them off the ass end of a ship in the middle of the night in the I.O.?

I'm not familiar with the South China Sea. I was on the Atlantic side for 20 years.

Could it be a seamount? Yes. There are areas over there that are not fully mapped. Based on the satellite photos I saw, it's clear that the sonar dome took the brunt of the impact. Can't see the bottom of the hull, which I'd like to have a look at. But there are a lot of other things that could result in similar damage.

Remember back when the 711 boat (San Francisco) hit a seamount at full speed. Although it was a charted seamount, it was not on the chart in use at the time, and it would take pages for me to explain how that can...and does...happen. There were a lot of failures in the 711 grounding, and it's a testament to how tough they build those boats that we didn't lose that one.

I'm still on the fence on this one. Eventually, it will come out. Maybe it was a seamount. Maybe not. But you can't keep the whole crew quiet forever. So if it wasn't a seamount, eventually it will come out. Navy taking a huge risk if this is a fabrication. Then again, our government lies to us every day, so...

If it was a grounding, then I'd be inclined to wonder if the UConn was actually where we were told she was...or maybe someplace else where they'd rather the Chinese not know we were there. Maybe it's not the "event" they're worried about, but rather the actual location. This would help explain why the Chinese seem to be so interested in this. Why would they care if we hit a seamount in international waters?

And if it's that, then it will be a long, long time before those facts come out. If ever.

Silent Service. By and large, we've held firm. And for good cause.

How did a $3 Billion US Navy Submarine Hit an Undersea Mountain?

Hong Kong (CNN) Some submariners call the USS Connecticut the luxury sports car of submarines. It's a $3 billion piece of American military hardware that's fast and outfitted with the latest electronic gadgetry only available when price is not a consideration.

But despite its high cost and sophisticated tech, the United States Navy says the Seawolf-class nuclear-powered attack sub ran smack into an undersea mountain in the Pacific on October 2.

The Connecticut is now pierside at a US Navy base on the Pacific island of Guam. The Navy says it got there -- more than 1,800 miles east of the South China Sea -- under its own power and its nuclear reactor was not harmed, although 11 of its crew of suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The Pentagon has not released details of the damage the vessel incurred nor how long it might be out of action in a region which, with the rise of the Chinese navy, is seeing growing demands on the US fleet.

Which leaves US military planners with some big questions to answer in the coming weeks and months.

The fact that they were dominated on the battlefield will worry the brass very little. Let's not lose sight of what's important here. Were the marines we sent out to fight diverse? Were they inclusive? Did we protect their feelings? That's what keeps our leaders up at night.

Sen. Josh Hawley tells Mark Milley to 'stop using the military as a giant social experiment' and 'train them to fight' after British troops forced US Marines into a humiliating surrender during training exercise

Republican Sen. Josh Hawley on Thursday accused the Pentagon of preparing U.S. armed forces for culture wars rather than real wars after their humiliating 'defeat' against British Royal Marines in a training exercise.

U.S. forces had to ask for a 'reset' halfway through the five-day mock battle in the Mojave Desert as they took heavy simulated losses.

And this week the US Navy fired a nuclear submarine's commanding Officer, executive Officer and chief of the boat for after their vessel collided with an 'uncharted seamount' in the South China Sea.

Hawley said competitors such as China would be baffled by the U.S. approach.

'They're probably wondering why it is that people like General Milley and Secretary Austin spend so much time recommending books on white rage, on critical race theory and are not more focused on war fighting,' he told the 'Ingraham Angle' on Fox News.

US Navy names ship after Gay Rights Leader Harvey Milk: Transgender health expert smashes champagne on bow with sister vessels set to be christened after RFK and Rep. John Lewis

A Navy ship named for slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, who served four years in the Navy before being forced out, was christened by a transgender veteran and launched in San Diego Bay on Saturday.

Milk was one of the first openly gay candidates elected to public office. He was serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978 when a former political colleague, Dan White, assassinated him and Mayor George Moscone at City Hall.

The replenishment oiler USNS Harvey Milk slid down the shipyard ways after a bottle of champagne was smashed on the bow by former Navy officer Paula M. Neira, clinical program director for the John Hopkins Center for Transgender Health.

Metallurgist pleads guilty to fraud after falsifying steel-test results for Navy submarines

Tests were intended to show steel would not fail in submarines' collisions or in certain 'wartime scenarios'

A metallurgist in Washington state pleaded guilty to fraud Monday after she spent decades faking the results of strength tests on steel that was being used to make U.S. Navy submarines.

Elaine Marie Thomas, 67, of Auburn, Washington, was the director of metallurgy at a foundry in Tacoma that supplied steel castings used by Navy contractors Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding to make submarine hulls.

From 1985 through 2017, Thomas falsified the results of strength and toughness tests for at least 240 productions of steel — about half the steel the foundry produced for the Navy, according to her plea agreement, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma. The tests were intended to show that the steel would not fail in a collision or in certain "wartime scenarios," the Justice Department said.
