UAW On Strike

Anybody else notice how similar the UAW President's name, Shawn Fain, is to to the Irish political party name, Sinn Féin? It's pretty fitting that the political party is linked to the IRA and PIRA, and the UAW might as well be listed as a terrorist organization itself.

There is an obvious solution that will make both political sides happy. Fire those on strike and replace them with low wage immigrants. Slash benefits and pay because the immigrants will be thankful for the crumbs they get and then slash car prices.

The right gets free market capitalism and the left gets jobs for their favored immigrants plus minority hiring.
It would be kind of showing everyone how these things can go in real time.. you are going to get what you are going to get.. and you are going to like it.. peasants! Aside: 90k with good benefits is really good, for essentially non degreed workers (heck, it’s good for educated people.. what in the world.. hard to feel sorry for them when they make more than me lol)

That’s funny. I saw him on CBS this morning with the hot brunette. And I did think of the IRA.

Listening to him though. Yikes.

Why are democrat politicians marching with UAW strikers attempting to influence private business?

The same thing they've been doing for decades. Dem politicians side with unions to "prove they are for the working class" and buying votes while they sell republicans as being in league with the devil - businesses who would enslave everyone else to make obscene profits. Their flock never seem to grasp that even if it were all true, workers would have no jobs if not for corporations. Perhaps even worse is the dem flock never get that dem politicians feed at the corporate trough just as much as anyone else. Maybe if the biden impeachment comes true that fact will finally come out - that all politicians are selling out their constituents and becoming extremely wealthy in doing so.

It's a reality that corporations have no votes, but a union has thousands or millions, and unions can often deliver votes as a bloc. Dems jumped on that and trade legislation favoring unions for votes. If anybody ever really bothered to look at what dems achieve - what they actually deliver vs the costs in taxes we pay, dems would be extinct.

What would have really been interesting is if they had included cost of living by state alongside the income.
i saw that yesterday but didn’t post. DC was number one adjusted income

Because the democratic party is the collective party of miserable people who have ever felt or been told they’re oppressed or marginalized and their goal is to make as many people as miserable as they are.

You might as well has prefaced this comment with: "Stupid comment to follow," before posting it.

They still need skilled labor. Maybe just do like so many other companies. Fly south away from the unions.
Then you run the risk of having your plant, equipment and end product nationalized. It's happening in Mexico and other so called "friendly" countries.

The auto manufacturers in the south are almost exclusively union as well.

I’m talking companies in general. I know a lot of companies that moved from Ohio, NY, etc to get away from unions. BMW is essentially right up the road and they’re not union and neither is any of their suppliers that I’m aware of.

You are correct. My company supplies industry, manufacturing, construction etc. Our territory is growing quickly. Three companies have closed facilities elsewhere and relocated from places like California, Ohio and Michigan recently. All to get away from unions.

I have been under the impression that only the Big 3 were unionized. BMW, Nissan, Volkswagen, Mercedes, KIA, Toyota, etc are not. Are they not mostly located in the South?

Interestingly, when I google for Top Ten states for mfg Autos, the most recent numbers that come up is 2015. Specify 2023 and anything but 2015 comes up.

Anyone else seeing that or is it just me?
