I’ve had good luck with the fords ive owned. The problem I had with both of them was that while the engine held up well, everything around the engine fell apart.

I seem to rip door handles off American cars. All of them. They hit 60k and suddenly I lose my inside door handle.

County line is 72 right?

72 is E-W from Madison thru Athens. County Line Rd, maybe Limestone County Line Rd, runs N-S. Kinda parallel to the N-S 65 interstate just a few miles west. County Line Rd runs into 565.

Funny thing, Hwy 20 from Decatur to Muscle Shoals is called Hwy 72 as well. One is north of river and other south of river.

That's right.

My family is right around florence and 72 is always the last major leg. Driven it a dozen times, names are familiar just dont have it mapped out. I could drive there with my eyes closed but couldnt tell someone directions to save my life.

Hah, I’ve never lost a door handle. My biggest complaints specifically with fords are the wheel assemblies (specifically w/ 4WD), ac units (failures to properly cool and failures in the both front and rear actuators), and electronics failures. Oddly, I’ve found they have the best Interior leather out there.

And since I’m already complaining, the Ford service is the biggest deal breaker for me. I won’t buy another because of this. It takes days to have an issue looked at and serviced. And they act like they are doing you a solid.

Compared to a Toyota or Lexus dealership where they go out of their way to make it quick and convenient for you while also taking care of a few extras for you while you’re there.

I lived in Madison and Athens for 7 years and wish I had stayed. Living in Athens and driving to Albertville or Florence and south to B'ham was such an easy drive. Have not been in years but probably changed a lot. The drive back to Nooga was pretty and hardly any traffic.

If you come from Atlanta, do you go into Bham and come 65 north? I came back from Atlanta one time across the mountains thru Rome and came out in Fort Payne. Not a good route.

My wife's Milan has been solid. The ford 3.0 seems to be a work horse engine. Only complaint is the multi-piece timing belt cover gasket. It leaks now. Onto the exhaust. They could have used a one piece. I was told you had to pull the engine to replace that gasket. Not sure if true, but if so $1200 job for a gasket. If not true, you'd still have to pull off the front right wheel. take out the wheel well liners, and drive shaft, and get to it that way. We did have the AC go out. Kept being a problem cause the "best place" in town didn't tighten the bolts on the compressor and it rubbed a hole into the hard line. Just now after 2 years getting it to where it doesn't freeze up still on long trips. Leather is holding up exceptionally well. Just need to get a seam re-stitched where it has about 2 inches loose.

Now my CTS...
Oil disappears. But, I think I just found why. Won't start with a key. Have to pull the starter relay and cross wire jump it. Had $1400 worth of rear end bearings replaced. Both mufflers rusted off. Back passenger window just fell out of track. Exhaust leaks/smells. Other snively things. Leather has held up though.

Most durable vehicle I've owned to date...2002 S10. 350K miles and still cranks right up. It is need of many refreshes, but it is only a Saturday trash truck these days, but still goes. Only major complaint is how hungry it is for fuel pumps. On its 5th. Everything else has been stellar.

Yeah now I hit up i20 to i65 till it hits alt 72 in Decatur. Or take some slight turns in Decatur to get back to alt 72. I think I have taken 31 in harselle to alternate 72 in decatur.

I have done fort payne/scottsboro , also went thru Gadsden. Haven't been impressed with either , too many two lane roads in the mountains for my liking.

If you live in north Atlanta it might even be good to come to Chattanooga and hit 72 in South Pittsburgh. Probably 4-1/2 hours from Kennesaw.

Same problem on my '13 sierra. Exterior door handles break a c-clip and have to be replaced.

My Jeep Liberty is the worst car I have ever bought, and I have owned a Ford, Olds, Toyota, VW, 2 Volvos, 2 BMWs, Land Rover, MB and a Porsche. Don't buy any Jeep with the 3.7 or 3.6 engines. The transmissions are junk and everything else is poorly designed.

I've drove many vehicles over the years (counting family and friends' rides), and the two absolute worse were Jeeps. You couldn't pay me to own one.

Rode in a wrangler with a friend to Florida. The worst ride of my life. You could not pay me to own a jeep as a daily.

My brother has a Jeep Grand Cherokee. He’s had it about five years. He loves it. I think it’s a good ride and nice car. He likes it more then the 4Runner he had before it.

Not in Athens....I will concede that it is across the line into limestone county....... still referred to as a "Huntsville Location" and this is not my dad's backyard....its my backyard.
Really? What is the address?

So after reading further it's not literally in your backyard. When I said my dad's backyard, I meant literally. Living in Killen is a ways from Athens.

I remember when Madison was basically all south of 72 and basically a wide spot in the road.. I think the one you are calling 72 into Decatur is Alt 72. It turns off 72 and goes over Wheeler Dam then into Decatur. I think I they built 565 over top of it.

Hwy 101 goes across wheeler dam
Yep, I stand corrected. In all my years there I never travelled 72 all the way West except for football games. I have taken it east to S. Pittsburgh about a zillion times. Before it went 4 lane all the way Athens to Knoxville sucked.

Do you actually know where it is? It's not just across the line in Limestone county. It's dead square in Athens. Stones throw from Steelcase.
Dude ...I know where it is...all I am saying is everybody here in this area just refers to it as the Huntsville Plant....its just a reference
