UConn vs Georgia Tech

She's still not one of the best players in WCBB. She might become eventually, but she's firmly in with the rest of the pack at the moment.

No, but I still think when she's at 100% she's a much bigger impact player than what she has shown. The biggest question is whether she can ever get, and stay, healthy...

Sure, if they are in shape, somehow miraculously have no timing issues, can still run and shoot like before, and their teammates accept their return to take over the show.
YMMV, but it's not unheard of for a player to come back from an injury and be able to contribute right away. They'll likely go through some practices and evaluations before the coach decides to put them in. I mean, Kellie tore her ACL early in the season and pretty much showed up for the NCAAT and helped Tennessee to the NC her sophomore year.

Maybe...but she hasn't shown anything in college yet. There are a lot of freshmen that we all expect things of, but until they provide a baseline to show what they can do on a regular basis, then they're just another player until they prove otherwise.

Yes but I contend it will take some time to reintegrate to the point that the team is actually better than before they were injured.

Tennessee may be better off quicker since they have had players step up. UConn has folded miserably....twice..... but have injured superstars who may return at some point. SC is good. Ga Tech IDK. NCSU looks good but not great to me.

We are still weeks away from knowing the important stuff like who's actually contending.

UConns biggest issue is confidence followed closely by player development.

But how likely is that?

EW is going to hate having to give the ball back to Bueckers. You could tell she felt it was finally “her time to shine” the other night. As usual, she showed brighter than her teammates but her team didn’t benefit from it.

She’s always believed she’s Gods gift to the PG spot. That’s why I think she came to UT in the first place. She was promised a starting PG role whereas other coaches likely told her no way. She’s a 2 guard.

She is capable of good games and bad games still inconsistent in her play. Bueckers seems to be steady always giving a performance that is consistent every game. EW good and bad.

If Evina feels that way, then she could prove it by shining while Paige is out. Last night was not a promising start for her. She wasn't horrible, but she didn't show that she can take over a game. She did the same thing she did when she was at Tennessee, which is get aggressive in the last few minutes when the game was out of reach. If anything, her problem is that she doesn't call her own number enough. Maybe she shouldn't defer to Christyn all the time.

Agree that she's better suited off the ball.

Amb, last night was horrible. The way she ran the team was exactly what she did at UT. The ball was stuck in her hands 75% of the time. She’d pass only if she didn’t have the shot herself and she caused a lot of their turnovers making bad passes to their bigs.

Those TOs get recorded to the big after they bobble the ball but she’s the one creating those turnovers. Did that all the time at UT and it was maddening. She acts like it’s the other players fault too.

EW does not have takeover ability. She’s slow and not actually that athletic. She’s a crafty guard with a great passing skill set but she has a low BBall IQ and a bad knee. She’s back to coming up short on her shot again the last few games leading me to believe her knee is bothering her again. When she’s getting lift on her shot she’s a really good shooter now but she’s not at the moment.

Westbrook will not have a pro career. She’ll be drafted and will play overseas, but mark my words, she’ll never play a game in the W. Doesn’t have the stuff.

The returners are picking up where they left off (for better or worse), save for Edwards who has been mostly a no-show thus far. I think Fudd was oversold. She looks like she will be another KML, which isn't necessarily a dig at her. But there is little doubt that this will be Paige's team until she graduates, with Azzi riding shotgun.

The biggest surprise for me is how pedestrian Dorka has been. She should be the player that creates a lot of mismatches in favor of UConn against the majority of teams, but she looks out of her element in spite of playing against a high level of competition when she was at OSU. It's like she's lost if she's not the go-to player.
Quality post….all B1G Conference player and she has found no significant role yet on this team, looks lost as you said.

Nice post. Agree on Juhasz. Thought she’d be very helpful in the high low game for them. Geno must not like how she and ONO run it though because they didn’t even try last night. That’s what GA Tech burned them with all evening.

Juhasz was more aggressive offensively at Ohio State. She seems afraid to shoot the ball at UCONN.

Good lord they are being overly dramatic. I'd hate to see what happens if they actually hit a REAL losing streak skid.

Many UConn fans have reveled in Tennessee's (and Tennessee's fans) struggle to find a way forward after Pat, but when you peer through the cracks in their armor you get the sense UConn fans will not take their decline any more graciously. When I think back on all the vile, arrogant online comments I saw them make about Summitt from 2000-2005, back when they finally "broke through" and felt they had finally eclipsed Tennessee, well ... I don't feel much pity. Or any pity.

That's what I remember as well. That's going to remain with me for life. Absolutely no reason to assassinate Pats character like that. Geno only fanned the flames the classless little man he is.

I'm watching the first half right now (I only picked up the 2nd half live). Not sure what you're seeing with regards to Evina's playmaking and time with the ball. The ball was moving, and there were times where she'd have to signal to get the ball back because there was a breakdown. She had three perfect passes to Edwards that AE was waiting for, and she missed an open layup on one of them, she bobbled one of them that allowed the defense to converge on her, and then bobbled another one out of bounds. But all three of them were perfectly delivered. I know Evina is not popular here, but that first paragraph is not true. She only took like 6 shots through 3 quarters and was not looking for her shot until the last two minutes.

I do agree that she will struggle to make the WNBA, not because she isn't a good player, but because the WNBA is ruthlessly competitive and it's hard to make a roster. In fact, the only player on UConn's roster that is a likely lock for the W is Paige.

We don’t view the game the same. This I know from our previous interactions. At what level did you stop as a player?

I remember as well. Haven’t and won’t be forgetting. They’re a trashy lot.

The word Nan used was "sobbing."

Cue Pretenders track....

Nan wasn't reporting that the players were sobbing. She assumed they were in the discussion about should the players do the presser or not (I think that it's a disservice not to...seems like being a poor loser). I don't think there's any news saying that the players didn't do the interview because they were "sobbing"

LOL, lame. I expected more from you. Why don't you play that line with Geno? I'm sure he'll benefit from your high school playing experience.

You neglected to answer the question which was an answer in and of itself.
An irrelevant one at that. I'll answer your question: jr. high, other than some pick up over the years. I'll also share another insight with you, which you don't appear to be aware of: your high school glory days on the basketball team doesn't make you a play by play expert. Sorry you had to learn this way.

Chemistry problems. That’s why they all came over here and jumped down my throat that it wasn’t true when I started posting that a month ago. They can see it too and I’m sure some of them know what’s going on.

I have a very, very strong feeling that Fudd will wear different colors next season. They have 3-4 egos on this current team that are driving a wedge. The UCONN coaches and fans can say whatever they want about EW but we know….

“A woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong it is until it's in hot water.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

Lady Vol fans have seen EW in the pressure cooker up close and personal. She can’t handle it and she becomes divisive in the name of self protection. They all say this is “Momma Es” team but I think Bueckers is the de facto leader, total disconnect there. Toxic.
Eleanor Roosevelt quote!! Strong!
