UF Coaching search (Merged)

Gary Andersen scares me. He is probably one of the few coaches who could out coach butch.

I like our coach and support him, but I have not yet viewed him as someone who would be particularly hard to 'out-coach' on the field. See 2013 VU and 2014 UF as examples.

Andersen would coach circles around him.

MSU's Mark Dantonio could possibly be a good fit. He's an excellent coach and loves tough defense.

Considering our lame duck caveman out coached him twice, not sure where this notion that Butch Jones is an elite CFB coach comes from.

Is Anderson an offensive guy? He's a former defensive coordinator. Foley wants offense. I read that when he left Utah St. he personally called every player on the team to tell him that he was leaving. That is class...Of course staying and fulfilling your contract, which no good coach does, would be the ultimate class, but what he did is next...

Carroll has got a lot of college coach in him, with his personality, but he's won a Super Bowl now and so will probably always be in demand in the NFL.

The appeal of the florida job, of course, is that it is in the heart of a rich talent state and so is relatively easy to recruit. A lot of coaches know that.

If I'm Foley, my perfect pick is Sumlin--but would he/could he snatch a coach from an SEC rival? Probably not, but....

Cutcliffe would be a very good match with florida, IMO. Has an excellent offensive mind, QB coach, done a damn good job at duke, and because florida is rich recruiting ground his rather low-key personality might not be a handicap. He's 60, so will be viewed by some as too old, but that wouldn't deter me from giving him a good look. He's 10 years younger than Spurrier.

Also, Penn St is Franklin's dream job. Born and raised in Pennsylvania with all ties to the state of PA. Not a single tie to UF or the state of Florida in general.

Until the sound of the Brinks Truck makes him listen a bit more closely.

Dream jobs are an illusion. For the right amount of money, anyone will leave their so called "dream job."

That being said, I'm wondering how much UF will pay for a new coach.

I'm thinking around 4.7-5

He might make PSU give him a raise, but Franklin is already making over $4 million per, good enough for eighth highest in all of college football. Tough to see UF trumping that.

True. Of course stupid people with money will do stupid things. Texas allegedly making Saban an offer is positive proof of that

It's one thing to throw crazy money at one of the best coaches in college history. It's completely different to throw above 5 million to James Franklin. I think he's a really good coach, but not proven enough for that kind of coin.

May have been posted earlier but wasn't Mike Gundy generating heat for the job? He's got the offensive credentials.

6.5 is the number floating from the talking heads. But that's for guys like Stoops, Freeze and Kelly.

6.5 for Stoops, Freeze or Kelly. For what? Florida is about to find out what Tennessee already knows. It's not easy to hire an elite coach and elite coaches today are old news tomorrow. Better to hire a solid coach without all the decoration. Briles, Patterson Mullen etc.

The other thing I'll add is that if you are right, and there is no dream job, just money doing the talking, Graham is an unbelievably better hire IMO, and, again, I think Franklin is a really good coach.

I agree that Franklin is a good coach. I just think he still needs to prove himself at a higher level, specifically where he is at.

He did take advantage of the East being down while he was at Vandy, but made good use of his players and had a good game plan for the majority of his opponents.

I do agree Graham is a far better hire. But if Hialeah is correct and they are talking $6.5 mil, that's a hard number for most coaches to resist. And really hard to turn down because of just being a homer. With that kind of money, they could buy out Strong if they wanted as his salary is sitting at $5 mil and the buyout is generally pathetic.

Again, I DON'T want Strong back in UF. Please pick someone inept.

Stoops has a NC and has avg 10 wins a year at Okie. Not really sure what you definition of "solid" is for a coach.

In referring to Chip not B Kelly.
