UNC basketball

This is without question the worst UNC team I've ever seen (with the exception of 2001-02). Can't shoot the three worth a flip, can't shoot free throws, can't pass around the perimeter, can't defend the perimeter, can't even call a flipping timeout when one's needed (Roy). Just awful. I'll consider it a success if we make the NIT field this year.

P.S. They stated on the game tonight that UNC is the 344th worst perimeter shooting team in America. There are 345 teams that are considered in this stat.

I honestly don't know that I've ever seen a team (any team; not just UNC) that down by 8 or 10 points with 10 minutes left, you already know the game is over because they won't make enough threes or FTs to get back in the game. If this team is down by more than 8 points at any moment in a game, it's pretty much over.

Okay, end rant now.

Not very often you see the scrubs of the opponent going in first against UNC. Something tells me this won't be the last time either.

I have a feeling that Clemson will get its first win ever in Chapel Hill on Sunday. And I am absolutely dreading that trip in a couple weeks to Tallahassee. That is going to be a royal ass whipping. They may make 20 threes.

You can never concede to Clemson in Chapel Hill. That's like saying the sun won't come up
tomorrow or something.

They need all the scoring help they can get, but they played better basketball without McDonald and he isn't exactly lighting it up from the perimeter anyhow.

One semester, that's impressive.

Yes, they are bad right now, but they did ummm beat UK... Also, I would bet a good amount of money on Virginia beating UK at home

Leslie is bad... There are just too many guy that just shouldn't be at UNC...

James
Hubert
Simmons
Britt
Leslie (5 years of the same)

It wouldn't be so bad with PJ, or with Bullock not going pro, but you can't do anything about it now. I've been in next year mode for awhile now.

How in the hell did this team beat Kentucky, Michigan State and Louisville? Did learning that Hairston is never coming back have this big of an effect on the team mentally, or is something else going on behind the scenes?

This. Beating one of these teams, even two, could be a fluke, not all three. UNC has the talent just not the motivation or discipline.

Roy's last two recruiting classes have been mediocre at best (for UNC standards, but not for national or even ACC standards). And don't get me started on McDonald. When your second best perimeter shooter can't shoot the ball in the ocean (LMac), you're in real trouble. And we are.

Assuming this team is finally what I think they are, then I see at least eight more losses on the schedule. That would put us at 16-15, if I'm not mistaken. And lucky to make it to the NIT.

Who knows what the causes are, but I agree with you about the talent. The announcers last night (including Bilas, the only Dukie I respect) and the studio analysts both tried selling the "Virginia is simply more talented card," but I don't buy that at all. Greenberg even went as far as saying that UNC had no NBA talent currently. Bullcrap! Worst case scenario, both McAdoo and Paige play in the NBA. How many do they think UVA will put in the league? Joe Harris? All he can do is shoot the ball wide-open when someone passes him the ball.

My point is, that UNC is talented. Not typical UNC talent, but more than Virginia talented. Talented enough to not have UVA beat them like a drum, despite their youth. I honestly don't know what the issue is, whether it's motivation, coaching stubbornness (which Roy is known for), or just the fact that they're talented but still can't shoot worth a crap from more than 10 feet. I have no clue, but talent is not the issue.

Just a combination of effort and ole Roy. Whatever it was, something clicked fast, and the wrong way. I mentioned earlier in this thread about Carolina peaking too early. Had no idea it would go the opposite direction to this extreme.

Hairston with 40 tonight lol SMH. Would have been an all American

People can say what they will, but I really believe he was poised for a breakout year. Definitely would have been in the conversation for ACC POY and most likely National POY as well. Dude can flat out play.
