Since about 2 million Americans start losing their benefits today, I thought the following picture that's on the front of fox news is interesting. Seems this guy has time to protest, but not look for a job.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If you don't have a job, your job is looking for a job.

i would say you'll see people find jobs once their benefits run out.
Little bit of tough love. Certainly every situation is different and some really can't find employment but for those who are able, take the funds away and force them to get off their arse

if you've been unemployed for over 6 months you are the problem not the economy.

Before I get accused, I have never been unemployed or taken unemployment benefits. Just believe that the program is needed but needs a lot of auditing and restructuring.

Could you imagine being 63, collecting unemployment for 2 years as you roll into retirement and start collecting social security?

my 38 year old sister in law got laid off. had no plans of finding another job since she was pregnant with the new kid and wants to stay home and has been collecting unemployment for a year now.

You don't think there are certain situations to where this isn't the case?

No.

Jobs are out there. I saw an anecdote awhile back that illustrates the problem. A guy was offered a job but turned it down to stay on unemployment. The job was at a lower level and pay than what he had before. He had the luxury of turning down a job that would have turned him into a contributor rather than a dependent. The time extensions that have been added to unemployment have damaged the recovery by squelching re-employment momentum.

Not always possible.

Yeah it is. When you're unemployed, no job should be beneath you. Cut off the 'free money' and they'll find a job.

I know LG hates these stories but who cares. My brother-in-law got fired from his job in Florida due to his own negligence, has been collected an unemployment check for a year and a half, and is going to UF on the taxpayer's dime. Tell me how that's not effed up.

When is it not possible?

I was cut by a company having major cash flow problems right after 9/11. I moved 900 miles AND took a lower level position to get re-started.
