Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

I just love the fact that most people quote tradition but they have no clue of the history of Tennessee uniforms. Do a search. You will be shocked at the old uniforms. And try looking prior to 1998 please.

We have. But with almost everything in the game of football, anything before "modern football" is not taken as Gospel. And "modern football" is after 1932, so fact check yourself on what they have worn in the modern age of the game.

Has anyone ever had a pet with a spot or noticeable mark on one side of the face and then looked at the pet in a mirror and now it's on the other side and it just looks so damn weird? That's how I am with the white tops and orange pants.

Edit: I don't hate them, they just don't feel right.

I think we should stop the pre-game band stuff. Its just a silly tradition. And the players aren't even on the field to see the band play. And its all about the players, right? And that silly running through the T thing just unnecessarily tears up the field. Plus they wear those same old 100 year old band uniforms. And that guy in the stupid dog costume. What's up with that? More silliness. I mean the guy can't win even one mascot contest. Dump it, I say. If you aren't a winner you don't belong on the field. And the maxims. Pffft. Throw them away. They were written by some old dude about 70-80 years ago. We need new stuff. Let's get all the players in a room and let them write the new ones. I mean, its all about the players and getting them to come here, right? The Vol Walk. Every stinking' school now has one of those. It just clogs traffic blocks pedestrians from enjoying walking the campus. Ditch it. We should fly them over the stadium and let them all parachute in. Now that would be a great new tradition. Better yet, lets get all the players in a room and let them pick how they get to the stadium. I mean, its all about the players, right?

Is there any difficulty with this: NO! My Vols are O&W. I hate the grays. It looks like another team on the field. Call me old fashion or an old foogey but I am an O&W guy.

I'll call you a foogey if you tell me what it is first.

Or do you mean

...a Fugee?

The real question is why are people trying to turn Tennessee into some kind of museum? Ill say this I love the orange and white, Tennessee does have tradition but for the last 10 years its been a tradition of losing so maybe changing things up a little wouldn't hurt. I say if the kids want to wear them then let them, they're the ones busting their asses every week on the field and in the classroom. So if they want it then by all means do it.

The point your missing is this is not the University of These Kids, it's the University of Tennessee! The kids represent the University and all of the traditions, not the other way around.

Might as well. Sad thing is that I don't think this would bother some of these super fans in the least.

Tradition is anything that has anything to do with UT. Not just a few decades.

So if we go by winning tradition we should go with the over-sized numbers and the road jerseys with the black outline and the pants with a T on the hip. The kids picked the school to play for and that school wears orange and white. I could go for some orange pants though.

All white on the road. It looks sharp. I was one of those who was really high on the smokey grays, but for some reason I didn't like them as much as I thought I would. Think I'm going back to preferring orange at home and white on the road. Maybe one gray a year as a change-up. I like those gray helmets, though.

They can't turn down the white jersey with the grey helmet and pants.

I thought the same thing. For all the O&W only folks - we have actually had other tertiary colors before. Smokey Grey pants, helmet with a white jersey would look great. I would like a third color piping on the numbers - white on orange with grey jerseys, grey on white for orange jerseys, grey on orange for white jerseys

Where do you think the traditions came from? Orange and white was selected by students. Smokey the mascot came about in the 50's. Vol Walk came in the 80's (borrowed from Auburn). Rocky Top started in the 70's (we students THEN hated it. It was for blue hair donors. I can't imagine not having it now). Checkerboard end zones were not always there, nor was the block T - thank Doug Dickey. The point is traditions happen and evolve over time. Every generation of students adds a layer.

We should only play John Phillips Sousa marches. It's college football - no bluegrass tunes. We should wear unadorned helmets as they did in the 30's and 40's - a stripe only if it is not gaudy. No costume mascots or animals - Volunteers are early 19th century frontier soldiers, not hound dogs. We should sit quietly and respectfully during games wearing suits and proper hats. We should only run a single wing offense just as the General did. ...

The team should wear blue font.
