Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

They've sold light gray polos, jackets, and other "sideline" gear for a couple of years now, that's nothing newsworthy.[/QUOTE]

First time I had seen anything that shade. Probably nothing though.

Not necessarily against Oregon. That's apparantly up in the air now. They'll be worn at some point. The other discussed alt is dead.

By "other alt" are you meaning the orange alternate we were supposed to wear for one home game?

That was a possibility for a home game, yes. It's not happening. The gray will the only alternate worn during the regular season in a game TBD.

The game will be announced when the uniform is unveiled.

there is one reason and only one reason I would enjoy the Vols making changes to their uniform every 5 years. It would be to see how fast Oneida high school manages to copy it.

With the orange alternate off the table, are they entertaining the idea of wearing the grey for a home game instead?

Did Oregon not agree to it or something ? I think there is something in the rules where both schools need to agree on a road uniform color other than white, unless its the true road uniform. BTW will the uniform be grey jersey, pants, helmet ? Any hint yet ?

Might just be a change in plans.

I don't think the helmet will be different.

Are they totally ditching the other alt, or will we maybe see it next season? I'm curious to see exactly what it would have looked like, even if the changes were subtle.

They will be doing an alt every year, so it's possible, but I would say that by next year there will be a whole new set of concepts from adidas to pick from.

There were dozens to pick from this year, you'll never see the ones that weren't selected.

UGH, this is disheartening. Oh well, sign of the times I guess.

What made them axe the alt idea DP

DP, in a discussion in another section of VN, it was said that Adidas was a 'bad partner' for UT, supposedly by someone who has 'been inside the AD for years", and that UT would likely move towards Nike or UA.

Your thoughts? Primarily about the "bad partner" thing. The Nike/UA business has been covered.

Who said that? Based on everything that's been said here by people like DP who actually know, Adidas treats us way better than Nike would.

matt42012 said it. He said that he had seen a lot of players with stress fractures and foot injuries because of the footwear. He said he thinks Nike is our future.

Don't know what kind of credibility he has, but he's always seemed to have a bit of a inside knowledge.

It's in the "Cruitin' Football Talk" thread I think.

I read his posts about it, and IMHO he's basically stating his opinion. His details have been nowhere close to DPs. He may have talked to someone in the AD but I doubt he has any real knowledge, other than hearsay.

I don't believe that is an accurate statement at all. They aren't a "bad partner" by any stretch.

Sure, there have been athletes in various sports that have had foot problems, shin splints, etc. But that's not atypical at any school with any shoe company. Certain shoes just don't work with certain feet. When that happens here, a foot specialist from adidas comes in and takes molds of the athlete's foot and shoes are custom made to address the problem. One volleyball athlete that graduated several years ago had suffered from shin splints all her life. After adidas custom made her shoes, she never had another problem during her career. Erik Ainge had a foot issue that was corrected by the adidas custom shoes.

Many athletes, especially in high leg impact sports like basketball and volleyball, have custom orthotic insoles that go in their shoes regardless. And that's the case at many schools with many different equipment providers.

I don't know if Nike takes those measures or not. I imagine they do, but I don't know. But I don't believe anyone at UT sees adidas as a bad partner. And anybody that believes that switching to Nike or anybody else will solve all the problems is dreaming. There were 60+ Nike schools last year that didn't receive their basketball uniforms until December or later last season. Every company has issues from time to time.

Has anyone heard anything about the possibility of a different face mask color gray or orange?
