United Airlines New Seating Chart

Although airlines have all the legal rights to treat passengers the way they do, maybe this fiasco will cause them to reconsider how they apply their rights.

i fly maybe 150 flights a year.. I have been bumped.. canceled, weather etc.. still the best way to travel and overall the passengers are worst than the airline by far

Can't argue much with that. It's gotten so I don't much feel like a customer when flying. The airlines hold all the power if you need to fly.

Rosa Parks was on a city bus. United Airlines did not own the city bus.

Hearing that the security guy is suing the doctor for using his face to break the guard's hand.

I thought they said it was the armrest that busted his face up?

and as far as the video goes about him acting crazy, they have put hands on him which most juries are going to forgive. and two afterwards when he is crazier he has been beat up and maybe concussed. plenty of ways to explain away the weirdness. also if he is a foreigner its a communication thing

No way this goes to court. That would just rekindle the fire against United. They will settle, and it will have 7 figures. Watch.

no doubt. UA has already apologized, said this isn't what should have happened, said they felt shame when they saw it, etc. Said it will never happen again (e.g. changin policies). They can't fall back on "rules is rules" now. They've admitted their rules are wrong.

the press conf from the lawyers today made it clear they are going for a big score. UA will comply

Chicago's aviation officers are not part of the regular police force, unlike in many other big cities. They get less training than regular officers and can't carry firearms inside the airports.
Alderman Chris Taliaferro said he was concerned the incident 'really has put at risk' aviation officers.
The comment was made ahead of a meeting where the City Council is expected to ask a series of questions stemming from the incident, including whether the airport officers even had the legal authority to board the plane.
'They are allowed in the terminal and baggage area, but my understanding is they may not be allowed on a plane,' Alderman Michael Zalewski, who leads the council's aviation committee, said.

I found this part interesting in the article. So it looks like Chicago may be paying out as well

It sucks because this sets a precedent that passengers that are asked to leave will refuse and hope to get their own 7 figure payout, while raising the price of tickets.

a lot will come down to how these "aviation officers" are defined.

and I wonder if United's "re-assignment" policy defines who can do the actual physical redefining?

Or it shows the airline that they should probably re-train their agents and take another look at their policies.

The whole thing is/was a sh!tshow for everybody, but there were about two dozen ways for this to be handled better than reaching an arbitrary $800 cap and deciding to just "randomly" bump somebody.

Ah but you are missing something here. We agree to this random bump and compensation when we buy the ticket. He makes no difference. What about the other three passengers that took the compensation without an uproar? What about the flight attendant that had to deal with this childlike behavior? What about the 140 people he would have had their flight canceled in Louisville bc the crew could get there for that flight? He's a selfish man with a history of poor decision making and I hope he gets nothing

I'm out then! I've never flown.

Good for you. If I didn't have too I wouldn't but I honestly don't have the time to drive and get time to visit/vacation so I fly, and it's always something these days with fewer flights and whatnot but I agree to it

Bingo.

The guy was selected to leave and he should have done so. He became fair game for security to do what it takes to remove him at that point.

Mess with the bull, get the horns.

It's pretty much common sense these days to not act a fool on a plane.

So?

I get that in reference to the guy pitching a fit, but not in reference to United [and all the others] needing to look at how this was handled and improve/update how they handle it in the future.

Which I'm sure they will but he still doesn't deserve a red cent from UA

I remember 10 year ago or more.. a congressman entered a bill for passenger bill of right.. look for the t hat to be
Reintroduced

I'm sure it will be looked into, and I'm sure now we will have a new "fee" added to flying
