Universal Health Care

That means everyone from the wealthiest person to the poorest person can get the same health care.Wow something finally equal in this great country. What a concept.:yahoo:

Let me spell it for you,

communism,n. social system based on common or "equal" owership of property

or

socialism,n. social system with governmental ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods and services

Which do you prefer, you commie?

I can see where you are coming from but what I don't understand is that a lot of people that think the same way about the poor in turn expect the government to ban abortion, same-sex marriage, advocate prayer in school and so on. I guess I don't understand how it's Ok for the government to do some things yet are expected to bud out in others. For the record, I am against abortion and same sex marriage, which are some of the areas I don't agree with Obama on.
I cannot speak for others. However, to find my views on basically any political issue, simply peruse my previous 5,700 or so posts. I imagine you will find it an extremely daunting task to type-cast me.

Using words like "commie" is straight out of the Ann Coulter book of tactics to use against democrats. There is no comparison to Communist countries like China and Cuba and providing healthcare for everyone. I suppose the democrats want to ban you from leaving the country, take away your cable TV and cellphone too?

I grew up in a poor community and there are two different kinds of poor people. The first kind works, raises their kids, and lives in a responsible manner (ie, they do without and don't complain that the government should give them everything). Many of those people got foodstamps or WIC, but their primary goal was to provide their kids with a better starting point in life. A majority of those kids went to college or joined the military. Not all of them succeeded, but at least they were given a foundation based on personal responsibility.

The other kind of poor were the generational welfare recipients. A cynical lifestyle that saw a kid as a means to more money from the government. They had no drive to get out and their kids learned that they could do nothing and still get paid. Very few of these kids made it out of this environment.

My sympathy, or empathy, for the poor starts and ends with those who are working hard and trying to make life better for themselves and their kids. I have no problem with them receiving assistance because eventually they won't need it.

I guess you took " that a lot of people" as I ACTUALLY wrote to mean YOU which I did not write. Please read carefully. Thank you.

If parents are working hard, it seems like the spoils fall to their kids in the end. I don't know if there is a better gift in life than seeing your parent(s) work hard for your family and teach you the value of hard work and the importance of seizing opportunities. Hard work doesn't always translate into a lot of $$ for your family, but there is always A TON of value in it for them.

All I am saying is that this is America the land of the free, I understand that our healthcare system is flawed and down right rotten, but it is not the governments place to step in and provide it for us. I am not wealthy but each spring I mail a check to the IRS for between 12k-$16k my wife has great insurance so why would the public want to do this broad stroke of govt. healthcare? Is it because they do a great job with all the other things they have managed to get involved in, like retirement or welfare or even education? So listen our system is broken so fix it ,do not just give it to the masses. The average tax rate of countries with socialized medicine hovers around 40%-45%, I pay too much now so should the government help fix it, YES, should all the people who do not want it have to pay for it? NO. There is a limit to what the federal government should be invovled in, IMO we should get out of the SS plan, and let citizens make their own retirement too, but now I must be crazy according to you guys but that is how I feel

I am not a commie. I just think it would be good for less-fortunate people to have the same health care, thats all.Laz y or hard-working,you're still going to get sick. Are you saying that if a person is lazy they deserve to just go ahead and die.If so SIR I would hope that God would put you ahead in the fire pit lane.

Well, instead of sitting on here and bible thumping everyone, why not go do something about it? Become a doctor or a nurse and do community work for the poor.

Even Mother Teresa questioned herself.

Why is it my responsibility to help someone who chooses not to help themselves?

those countries (i.e. canada, france, etc) might not be communists, but they are certainly socialists. and all of them have extremely high unemployment and taxes and their economies have grown at a much slower rate than the US.

So now you can't read either, NO I do want the poor to die if they do not have health insurance, but their needs to be a plan where the burden of few is not put on many. I think the drug companies, insurance companies, and healthcare workers should all be regulated and in more open competition. The government does not need to negotiate with my tax dollars to provide for a system that will be abused and people will learn how to play the system just like they have with welfare, and before you start I am not against helping others, but I am against the govt being so involved.

Oh yeah great job lining me up at the gates of Hell, just because I want to use common sense about how my tax dollars are spent, I do not want the poor to die, let help them with a better system, just do not make the govt. provide it in full

"less fortunate" is a political buzz word used by demagogues to mean anybody who isn't rich.

and yes, if a person is "lazy" then they deserve what's coming to them and it shouldn't be up to you or me to provide for them. If you think that's reason enough for me to go to hell, then you're welcome to your opinion.

Really, that is how all of you folks on the left argue, if we are not whole heartedly with you and your plan for the government being involved with everything from healthcare to wiping your own azz, we just have no heart or "compassion", well let me tell you the federal government was never supposed to get this big, that reason among many others is why we left and formed our own country

TENNFOLD, Please read that statement and think about it. That is perhaps the best way it can be explained.

If you think you have to wait a long time to see the doctor now, just imagine how much longer you will have to wait if we have socialized medicine.

I hope and pray one day that every thing will be controlled by the government!

Imagine, no more taxes and need for money. Every thing will be provided to me for the collective good!

I can't wait!

If there are no more taxes how is the government gonna get the cash to provide for our collective good? Is Bill Gates gonna take care of all of us? Now you can see why I rarely come into the political forum... :eek:lol:

You bring up some great points, there OE....I'm really going to have to rethink some things.

Nope, I will work for the benefit of the collective good and all of my earnings will go to the government.
