(Updated 8/2/23) 2023 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

That’s what they hope, but he has to earn it. One thing is for sure, he will be somewhere in the lineup, but his position is a little up in the air from what I’ve heard. 3B will be his first stop and hopefully he locks it in
Earning it is understood for everyone.

Not a chance.
Not a shot at Zane. Love Zane at 3B and his clutch bat but I don’t think most folks realize how demanding SS is—especially in the SEC. You need an outstanding glove, quick hands/feet, great mobility, and a strong arm. It’s the most difficult position IMHO.

Get an education……..of the small percentage that do make it, I wonder how many only play a year or two, probaly 70%

Yea I saw a data document agents use a few years back and the signing bonus needed to make it worth the “risk” of signing out of hs was 2.5mil

Anthony less wasn’t worth it per that math

Zander received a call from the Nationals for early Round 11. Offered $150,000. Z declined the offer. Wants to come back for his senior year, put more work in with Frank, etc. and contribute to getting this team to Omaha 🧡⚾🍊
Good for him all around. Think he will be a big piece next season

And they’ve had extremely good ones every single year under Tony, at least since Martinez

Catcher is more demanding/difficult, but shortstop is the second most difficult position.

@TN_gal thanks for starting the thread and updates, I appreciate it and I’m sure everyone else does too!

GBO!!!

You're welcome, @vol66! It's fun organizing this thread for everyone. Thank you to all for contributing and for the discussion. I also appreciate the mods pinning the thread. I've learned so much about the MLB Draft process these past few seasons. Look forward to next year! GBO!

Edited to add: I'll be on the look out for UDFA signings for our undrafted players and signees.

Not that easy. If they don’t draft you and you don’t have an agent it is hard They have to pretty much already contacted you personally
Zane doesn’t have an agent? So he had zero plans in the event he would get drafted or approached in the Post draft FA market? That sounds like he had zero intention of doing anything but returning. Hard to see Tony allowing that to occur.

A lot of college baseball guys don’t have agents.
Most don’t need one

if he signs a FA deal it likely would be with the help of TV and the staff. Coaches routinely help those deals happen

Most college guys don’t need an agent? To negotiate six/seven figure deals? What am I missing here…?
