Updates from Camp

What do you mean by amplify?

The reason that the staff is looking at JC options and transfer (Marve) options so hard is that at this point in time, they don't see any high school option in 2010 calss that can help them in 2010 season except with the scout team.

DO you mean be a # 2 quarterback? # 3 or # 1??

Well I don't think anyone knows for sure, but one way or another, whether it's amplifying the actual production or just the positional depth, I think they definitely want two guys.

oh, agree they are looking to take 2 in 2010.. just wasn't sure if you meant taking one or two to "play" in 2010. They don't believe even one is out there that can do that.

NOW, that could change by end of December and someone grow this fall into a player that can help in 2010. Just not evident right now.

Watch out of Ethan Taylor as a kicker. Heard he is planning on walking on this year. He really knows what he is doing. Also Idk why UT didn't go after stanzel this year from mcminn. He won some national kicking competition in FL and got some good offers.

Hopefully someone can wrap their mind around this question. How can someone justify that the staff isn't impressed with the current crop of QBs when:

1. We've offered them

and

2. It's the same selection of QBs all other 119 or whatever DI programs has.

Yeah, I'm not convinced by just watching junior HS footage that any of the players have a red carpet to the 1st quarter of the first game in 2010. That may change a little seeing some senior year gameplay, but I just feel like the only advantage Stephens, Rozier, and (possibly) Lamaison will have is the extra time in the offense and that we'll probably still be debating this time next year about the starter, no matter who commits.

First off, they've said that they aren't impressed with this year's crop so that part's easy. Secondly, we have to get at least one QB in this class so of course we are going to put out offers.

I don't even know what you are getting at with part 2 of your question.

We kinda have to get some kid on campus to play QB. IIRC we'll only have 2 on scholarship next year.

And not every school is looking at the same thing. I believe that USC hasn't offered any QBs, and Washington is hard after 2 of the same targets we are. Besides that, theres pretty much a huge drop off.

here is where I think the disconnect is.

Staff is looking for 2010 help. They don't see it in the class of HS kids. Doesn't mean they wouldn't take a couple to perhaps help in 2011 or 2012. It is jsut they feel a need to get some 2010 help NOW.

They are offering, but doesn't mean they think any are a solution in September 2010.

I've talked to people with the services who have followed for a long time. One told me he has followed since 1992 and this is worse high school class of QBs since he has followed recruiting. Still, all schools are going to offer because there is no one else they can turn to.

The best of the class is the best of the class, even if they are not a great prospect.

This is very true. There could still be a handful of 3-star QB's taken in this class that go on to become Heisman hopefuls. But just because this is a new year with a new batch of recruits doesn't mean every big school is going to wind up with an elite QB just because they land a guy that's considered near the top of his class.

:eek:k:
now i feel like  :shaking2: who should be :swoon3:
and :vava: for not seein it posted

I never read where our coaches were disappointed with the QBs in this class. Guess I'll take your word for it, since you've spoken for the coaches on every other QB issue.

As for part two....Let's say I'm a jockey, and I'm gonna race against two other Jockeys. Horse-wise, all to choose from is a blind horse, a horse with two broken legs, and a horse with torrettes--a disappointing class of horses, to say the least. But really, it doesn't matter what horse I choose because all the others suck too, but everyone still has to ride them.

Trust me, they've said it. I've heard it from several different people that are solid sources and are close to the coaches. The guy you initially questioned is one. Ed Orgeron is just one of many people that has Larry's email address.

As for the second part, the thing is the other teams have horses from previous years without those problems to bring to the race and we can't just show up with no horse.

Exactly...we're in a world of hurt at QB from past recruiting shortcomings and we desperately need help next year from a weak class that doesn't promise any. Most other teams aren't facing the talent hole at QB that we are for 2010.

I'll bet we take Lamaison and a project from this class and focus on landing one of the elite prospects in 2011 and meanwhile run the ball a lot.

Tyrann Mathieu from New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine doesn't have any offers and there wasn't much known about him before today but don't be surprised if one is on the way from Tennessee. He was unbelievable in pass coverage. As a pure cover guy, I just can't imagine how a kid could have had a better performance than he had today. Doesn't have ideal height but he has awesome hips and ridiculous makeup speed.

Tehvyn Brantley was another guy that was a little underrated guy coming in but he was pretty much untouchable. He's little but man can this kid fly. He was quick off the line, showed great feet and found the end zone on vertical routes all day.

Jarvis Landry (2011). Wow, he's a baller. I'm not sure if he really has elite top end speed but his routes are so crisp and so sharp. He's really fluid and effortless as a route-runner and he just snatches the ball out of the air. Landry was probably the most impressive wide receiver with the complete package there.

Desmond Brown is a big physical safety that has a lot of speed to boot but due to some issues last year with changing schools he has been a little under recruited because of lack of exposure. That changed Tuesday. A pretty routine performance by Desmond was enough to get Tennessee to offer him following the camp.

Michael Bennett has size, speed, hands at wide receiver. He picked up offers from Indiana and Wisconsin recently and I'm betting the SEC starts catching on real soon with him.

Keon WIlliams from Red Bank high school looked awesome. He sat out last year cause of a transfer but he looked like a million bucks and could really blow up soon. Schools may be slow to offer him in the summer cause of lack of film but watch out after he gets his first three games of his senior season under his belt.

Great group out there today. Fun camp.

Hey, I said I'd take your word for it.

But but...we have Nick Stephens!

But seriously, other teams like who? In the SEC: Every team this year in the East, save Florida, as well as every team in the West, save Ole Miss and Arkansas, will have QB questions going into this season. They're going after QBs this year. Bama got Sims, LSU is going after Heaps (poor bastards really thought they could get him), UF wants Scroggins, Georgia offered Montana...yeah.

Regardless, whatever QB we're going to come up with in this class, I highly doubt he's going to be subpar.

I just think these QBs are probably better than expected, and I find it hard to believe if one of these guys signs with an SEC team, we'll not be seeing them sometime in the future.

IMO, that is the "current" plan... plans are subject to change as days go by..:)

is there any new news on the Lamaison kid? I was seeing his name alot over the past few weeks and havent heard much since.
