That phrase should end any debate as to who the better team was.
Why? What were Florida's stats before our defense collapsed? If I remember correctly Chris Leak was waay off for most of the game. Sucks that we couldn't stop Tebow like 5 times on a 3 or 4th and short when we knew it was coming... then again we couldn't stop the South Carolina running backs so I guess we couldn't expect to stop him.
We managed to build a lead due to a trick play. The teams were fairly even and it was a badly played game, thats why it was decided by 1 point. The better team doesn't always win.
I don't see how Florida was better in the Tennessee game.. sure we had -11 yards rushing but they didn't do much better on offense until their comeback. The only thing they did better was take a "blow" to the helmet on an INT return for a TD.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that the better team is PROBABLY the one that won the NC.
Four losses including a dud bowl game VS one loss and a dominating performance over the concensus #1 team.
To say UT was better then UF is a joke.
Sound, accurate analysis.I was feeling lucky we just lost by 1. Their D-line overmuscled our OL. We had no running offense, which was pathetic, so they could easily drop so many people into coverage. 3rd down and short became our nightmare, and we did not play solid football. On the other hand, they mixed up run and pass well, DeShawn Wynn tore our defense apart and Leak threw deadly punches. On 3rd, 4th down and short, they had Tebow to take care of the business.
I just went back to stats book, total yardage: UF 330, UT 220 (including 48 yards trick play TD). They also had decent punt return play (65 yards on 4 returns).
Conclusion: we obviously lost to a better team last year. Just like LSU game, the score did not reflect the what happened in the game. I guess that's because we were at home.
They were significantly better than UT that day, though I agree with you that the gap widened even further as the season wore on. The score was misleading.
Jamarcus Russell throwing approx. 1.2 million interceptions in that game also could've had an effect on the score.
Really? I recall UT having "significant" lead nearing the 4th quarter.. but obviously it wasn't good enough and I acknowledge that... but to say Florida was way better that day is just stupid. Sure we managed to overcome -11 rushing yards and threw in a trick play to score a TD.. but why bash trick plays? Half of Meyer's offense is trick plays.
That game was played poorly by both teams but Tennessee managed to play even worse on defense in the 4th quarter. I have a hard time seeing the Florida dominance through out the game unless you just basing it on our lack of a rushing attack :\
I base it primarily on Florida's domination on both the offensive and defensive lines. Granted, Florida's offense was not a thing of beauty at that point in the season, but I believe that most football players and coaches will tell you that the war in the trenches is where the real game is and Florida simply had its way with UT in those very trenches.
UF dominated us when it came to our rushing attack but didn't dominated with their rushing attack. Yes, they had their way and managed to get a RB over 100 yards against us. They had the slight upper hand for sure, but to say dominated or significantly better in the whole game doesn't fit.
If you're looking for dominance in the trenches against UT just look at our games against AFA and Arkansas then try to compare it
Yeah, playing with a backup QB and rushing for -11 yards respectively played right in UT's hands in those games.
