Urban Meyer Out at Florida (merged)

From what I have seen on ESPN and Florida sites, Meyer doesn't have a physical health problem, stress related, mental case, hell he may have Nixonesque paranoia going on.

One station said the chest pains were nothing wrong physically with his heart, just anxiety attacks. I am sure more will become of the story.

from a yahoo article...

'Health issues' force premature end to Urban Meyer era at Florida - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF Blog - Yahoo! Sports

[UPDATE, 8:55 p.m. ET] The Gainesville Sun suggests that the hospital visit following the SEC Championship game left Meyer "scared" about his health and forced him to consider and reconsider stepping down for more than a week before the final decision. Meyer's father reportedly told the New York Times that doctors told his son he was making himself a high risk for heart problems because of his stress level during games -- especially after losses -- and that "He doesn't want to die because he wants to raise his family."
in other words, losing causes him too much stress, and next season isn't looking as good as this one.

nice posted that earlier, could have been panic attacks

Thanks. I was hesitant to step in.

I've lurked here 2 years at least, but I'd bet it's more like 3. I hate the rivals format, but we won't go into that.

Thanks for the welocome :)

post often
just get ready, for the Bammer beat down

yep, and if that is the case, then he certainly didn't put his health, "faith," and "family" first as he claims to be doing now.

if this is true, then faith and family come first to urban..........if florida isn't in optimal position for a title run.

Given the chance to win another NC he probably did put his health at risk. Most of us would have done the same thing to achieve something of consequence in our own careers. Most of us have to get that 2X4 between the eyes before we walk away from something we love to do, be that a vocation or advocation.

also, good chance that Mrs Meyer was adding to his stress by complaining so much about wearing that Tebow uniform to bed :)

yeah i know, but the comment of his about "his priorities of faith and family" just sort of rubbed me the wrong way.

he knew about these problems during this season. he now claims that faith and family are his number one priorities, but i think that's the case only when florida isn't primed for a national title run.

that statement gets thrown in there as a bid for a sympathy vote and to make people be hesitant to question his decision out of respect for his religious beliefs and family (two sensitive subjects people are hesitant to ask questions about anyway).

Thanks for clearing all that up for us.

When I first heard the report, I couldn't have agreed more with you. But now that I think about it more, and more of the story is coming out, I do think it is possible that he is just placing family first now. He won't ever have to worry about money again, and he is in a place that his family appears to be happy. Why not go out when things just seem right to you and your family. I'm hoping that this post doesn't come back to bite me in the future. I guess only the future will tell.

Eh, that thought went through my mind before I made my post. I don't buy it. An egomaniac like urbie can't just hang it up. Something is on the horizon. I hope this situation is what is, but I just have my doubts.

Well I hate to hear that. I wanted him to leave but definitely not for health reasons. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

I got ya but isn't that what all coaches, politicians, etc say - these guys are all ego-maniacs they are their careers. I think they all use the same PR firm to write these kinds of statements. But yeah you're right you don't have to be weatherman to see which way the wind blows and the hypocricy always just drips off these kinds of statements

oh yeah, it's all public relations. meyer of course isn't unique in doing this. actually, i highly doubt meyer worded the statement himself. people in PR are basically professional liars and spinmasters, and it's done to an even more devastating effect in areas much more important than college football.

I'm amazed at the comments some people are making.... None of us know the true story. So why make gutless comments towards the guy. At least think of his family in this!

What if Meyer had told it straight up, something like this. "I have been battling a genetic heart defect for years but as long as I thought we had a realistic chance of continuing to win championships here at Florida in the near term I was willing to sacrifice my personal health and the best interests of my family. However, as this was Tim's last year and we're losing half the rest of team to the NFL, and in my opinion we'll be fortunate to go 9-3 next year, I am resigning my position as HC at the University of Florida."

It would not suprise me one bit if he announced at his presser tomorrow that he was consoling Tebow after the SEC CG and one thing led to another and he is now carrying his twins. Could be wrong..

he'd still be an egomaniac, but i would respect the honesty.

seriously. somebody can be a scumbag (not saying meyer is) but somebody who is a scumbag and is a standup guy about it is much better than one who is a scumbag and tries to lie about it.

Agree but if his family reads opposing teams boards they must be masochist.
