but as pantone said, he's still coaching the bowl game. if the health problem was serious enough, he should stop coaching immediately.
if he was going to coach the bowl game anyway, just make the announcement january 2 or after the national title game or something.
Not sure this has been discussed yet, but I wonder if this has anything to do with him not pursuing the ND job?

i understand that people handle stress in different ways, but those sorts of things meyer had dealt with in the past and they are what all big time college coaches deal with every season (injuries, player misconduct, etc.).Little surprises me any more but I was stunned tonight to learn that Urban Meyer would resign as the head coach at Florida after the Sugar Bowl.
It was widely known in the football community that this season was a very stressful one for Meyer, who is only 45. The pressure of defending the national championship, being No. 1 for the entire season, and various off the field problems eventually took their toll on Meyer.
There was the Tim Tebow concussion and the constant second-guessing that came with his decision to let Tebow play against LSU.
Then came the Brandon Spikes eye-gouging incident against Georgia. Meyer originally suspended Spikes for only one half and was hit with a storm of national media criticism. Spikes later asked that his suspension extended to a full game and even that decision was met with skepticism.
He was fined $30,000 by the SEC office for commenting on officiating.
And finally there was the worst incident of all when defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested on an alcohol related incident on the Monday before the SEC championship game. Meyer never said this publicly but it was the worst kind of betrayal by a player on the eve of the biggest game of the year. Florida would not have beaten Alabama even if Dunlap had played. But the Gators got embarrassed and seemed shell shocked.

i'm beginning to think that the health issues are totally legit (the midseason heart attack nobody knew about being the lone exception) but they are a convenient excuse because he wants to do something else anyway.
if he had tebow/all his assistants/great prospects for a national title next year, i bet he finds a way to work through the health issues.
Totally agree.
I think Meyer worked through his health issues this season because the pieces were in place for a title run. The multiple hospital visits following the Bama game likely served as a wake-up call.
Apparently had a heart attack during the season.

I'll both introduce myself here, and respond to the thread.
I am a Bama fan. My "second" team is the Volunteers.
Oil and water, you might say, and I would agree.
I am alum to neither school, but I can't make myself cheer the Blazers . I'm a Bama fan due to proximity and exposure - My Dad was an Alabama state trooper and I was exposed to Bama football, and Bear Bryant early on, with VERY good seats. Yeah I'm an older guy haha.
I was also exposed to Tennessee football early on, having a fan in the family & I went to a few games.
I'm also a long time lurker to this forum. I think it's the best football forum around. Period.
But damn guys - you think Urban Meyer is stepping down, not from Florida but from coaching, because of Lane Kiffin? Because of Acid Reflux? Something is not being told. I hope he's O.K.
Love how ESPN is saying the "stress of being the head coach at Florida" have had an impact on him. Really? Stoops, Carol, Saban et al don't have stress at their respective programs?! C'mon.
