UROS Appreciation

There was a stretch early when Uros came into a game it was an automatic immediate layup or layups for the opposition. He just wasn't moving his feet and guys were just easily going around him. He seems to have gotten out of that. I think his offense has been good all along. Add a little more scrap to his game and now the rebounds rate is up. He has been very solid for a while now.

With all the Barnes haters on here….you wouldn’t believe that a 7 footer that transferred here with just size is showing he’s been…wait for it….COACHED UP AND DEVELOPING.

I confess, I never thought Plavsic would contribute much, but he sure is proving a lot of us wrong. Not pretty but he is bringing an attitude on the court that we needed. His effort is contagious and he is going to be that guy other teams hate. A coach needs to tell him to stop putting the ball on the floor when he is in the paint however. When he keeps it high, is patient and clears space he will continue to make a high percentage of his shots. Amazingly he is our best frontcourt player right now.
I think he has to catch better.

Olivier is the poster child for not bringing the ball down, he frustrates me

You have to give Barnes credit for recruiting UROS and developing him. Also incredible kudos to Uros for taking the hard coaching, working all out and becoming a quality SEC basketball player. This team is a great team to watch and be a fan of. Sure some players will have a poor shooting night at times but as a whole it is an exciting team. It is hard to put a ceiling on Uros with his competitive desire and seeing how far he has come to this point and why worry with it - just appreciate his contribution and outstanding play.
Uros should also help our free throw percentage .

The 20 second mark and 40 second mark…..FINALLY somebody wants to be the Alpha leader in n the court.

ZZ too. He’s not a great shooter but when we needed buckets against both Vandy and LSU he knocked down huge 3s. Of course I have to give credit to the drive and kick that set up ZZ’s wide open 3. I believe that was V but I’m not 100% sure on that.

Sometimes a dog just needs to realize how big he is…Enforcer, as mentioned above. We needed it
Very good point, I have a German shepherd and she was getting bullied by my other dog. He got her food one day and she just snapped, rolled him over and grabbed the throat in the German shepherd move. She knows who is in charge. Uros now knows he can play big boy ball since he is a big guy. Funny how Grant Williams improved, yet when people like me said Uros can as well people scoffed.

I've thought Uros would be an impact on the court and he is finally seeing the light, my only concern with him is I wish he would see a few of the dump passes coming to him

I agree but, Vescovi started this and it has fed ZZ and Uros. Fulky has his moments of beast as well. I believe 2022 Vols Basketball is getting their act together and their chemistry. CRB needs to focus practice on scoring.

It wasn’t just Grant either. Alexander absolutely improved. Crap, Fulkerson was playing at an all-SEC level a couple years ago before injuries seemed to derail him. And those are just some of the post players. Bone, Admiral, Pons, and others have absolutely improved under Barnes. How much is Barnes and how much is on the player or the other staff members, I don’t know. But there’s no question we have developed players pretty well during Barnes’ tenure.

The Admiral, Grant, & Bone squads got to gel as a unit and have identity. They were hella talented but leaders and warriors. Admiral feared no man. We haven’t had a squad to have a starting roster like that here since. It has been plug and play then gone. That has been the biggest problem imho the last couple of seasons. No alphas on the roster. Keon Johnson was destined to be that guy…he showed it as a freshman. Yet we all knew he was a 1 and done.

A lot are going to laugh when I say this...
Early on in this season, Uros reminded me of the young Admiral, his first year or two under Barnes. He showed plenty of hustle, fight and attitude, you just hoped the other things would fall into place. I’m not saying Uros is or ever will be on the level of Admiral Schofield, just pointing out the similarities in their growth in this program.
GBO!!

Uros has the tools to keep teams honest down low hopefully he continues that play so the shooters have even more open looks

Could also play a good zone breaker role. He has a pretty good shot from the FT line area. He is a great passer for a big and is hard to trap if he keeps the ball up high. I'm not a fan of him in pick and roll situations as he is too slow, not a threat from deep and it negates his rebounding/physicality.

Posters who say such absurd things generally lose my confidence in their knowledge of the game. Of course, they probably never know that (or care) because I mostly skip right past silly, clearly foolish comments like that and never dispute them. Actually the list is long on the player development during Barnes coaching career.

Seems like getting stuffed at the Alabama game at the end of the game maybe made him decide that he was too big to be laying the ball up.
