US may have killed Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani

Oh it is. Were they just at the Iranian embassy setting fires and trying to kill more?

I think you may be missing the point of the discussion. No one is arguing with the value of the strategic decision to take him out. The issue is what happens now? Even if it was completely justified to assassinate him, and even if it would not be justified for the Iranians to take a similar action here, the point is that if they do then what is the next consequence?

The larger point is that the position of POTUS requires judgment, not just in the moment, but with every effort made at understanding practical consequences down the line, which by definition carry risk. Its possible for everyone to agree for example that the guy was worthy of being assassinated, but that it is not necessarily in our future interests to do so.

I'd argue even before. Suleimani has had resources OBL only dreamed of.

The big difference is ability to retaliate between the 2 assassinations.
Can’t dispute this. But OBL was killed for what he had done more than what he may have been able to do if he wasn’t killed.

And the Iranians might assassinate for retribution?

Was having this discussion at lunch today: if the Iranians are looking to do something proportional in response, killing some random citizens would not make sense. Nor would an attack on a military installation make sense. A singular strike against a highly-placed US general or political figure, from their perspective, would be an in-kind response.

The biggest fear is that Iran pulls out their “nuclear option” but they don't want that. Shutting down the Strait of Hormuz and choking off a fifth of the worlds oil supply would be their best strategy. The worldwide economy would take a pretty severe body blow if they succeeded in this.

They can't do that either.

If I can pick it would be Pelosi, Shumer, Schiff or Nadler or all four.

I predict there will be assassination attempts on our people, maybe even the President. One of the reasons you don't engage in assassinations is that your enemy will usually respond in kind.

They won't attempt to assassinate POTUS. There is no coming back from that, as a country they would be destroyed.

Yeah, that’s pretty out there. They aren’t going to lob missiles across the world, either.

They are not like you. They do not think, or act like you would. Why do you have such a difficult time understanding this?
