Question for the military-minded here:
There's no secret that we're dealing with tribal mindsets and familial / religious loyalties, and Iranian citizens who may want change but will also stand up to outside aggression even if it's on their side. That's the Middle East for you.
How much effort do we put into reinforcing the anti-Ayatollah Iranians and preventing them from turning on us should we end up in a ground confrontation at some point?
I didn't miss the point at all. Perhaps you did? You’re grossly missing the point. This isn’t a threat to the regime, this is a threat to the Iranian people who don’t even like their regime either? This is just stupid strategy.
What Iran Looked Like in the 1960s and 1970s, before the Islamic RevolutionI'm not an expert on Iran but I don't believe it is tribal the way other ME countries are. Prior to the revolution it was relatively secular (for the ME) and liberal (for the ME). Of course that was 40 years ago so I don't know how much of that mindset carries over to the younger generations.
On the military side I see virtually no scenario where we end up on the ground there ala Iraq or Afghanistan.

Yup. Have a revolution and oust the radical Islamic Shah. Iran is ****ed up. Islam is a damn disgrace.I didn't miss the point at all. Perhaps you did?
It's the people who flood Iranian streets chanting "death to America" for 40 years, and you're wanting to clutch your pearls about US leadership's hard stance "words" "alienating an entire country" by threatening sites?
And if the people are that scared about their sites, perhaps they should stand up to the terrorists running their country--especially if they don't like/support them, as you say.
Effing stupid to generalize like that.Who are owned, invested in, and run by... Rich white people.
