US To Consider Arming Ukrainian Forces

If this was a fair vote in Crimea why wasn't the option of staying with Ukraine on the ballot?

It was. They voted to either stay in the Ukraine or become independent. The way I remember it anyway. The vote for independence came first, then the Crimea leadership asked to join Russia, Putin said no, they held another vote to join Russia, then Putin said yes.

Sort of accurate.

Crimea Vote Doesn't Offer 'No' Option For Joining Russia

Read what the 1992 Treaty entails.

Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basically it was autonomy while still more or less under the Ukraine rule.

OK... so I still don;t understand the outrage about this autonomous region being able to decide on its own to bounce between Ukraine and Russia.

Because it was in violation of the current Crimean Constitution perhaps? The one ratified in 1996.

You should probably study up on the history of this whole thing instead of reading the RT press releases.

70/30 is still a majority... so what are you crying about?

I'm not crying about it. I said the war isn't over Crimea. It's you RTers who keep bringing it up.

My point is simply that it didn't meet the protocols of a real election: not authorized by existing law, no campaign by both sides, presence of armed foreign troops.

If the war isn't over Crimea, then what is it over?

And again, your argument about "protocol" is simply an argument of style over substance (I'm assuming that your assertions are correct). You all still admit that had there been an election of your liking, that the outcome would have been the same... so what are you crying about?

The overthrow of Yanukovich violated the Ukrainian Constitution.

Maybe you should get your info from outside of Jen Psaki, The State Department or the Obama White House.

The truth of the matter is that if you all want to get on to someone for not doing their homework, then you need to set your sights on whoever the mastermind was in the Obama Administration that came up with the plan to destabilize Ukraine in the first place. They were either ignorant of or ignored the ethnic differences of the country (The Pro-Hapsburg/Pro-European western portion and the Eastern ethnic Russian section). They foolishly wargamed this and assumed that they could get the entire country to roll over.

Before or after he fled the capital and was removed from power by the parliament? All in accordance with their constitution. Except the fleeing part of course. Not sure the Ukrainian Constitution covers "scared despots running from trouble."

Wait, wait. Did you just use mastermind and Obama Administration in the same sentence?

The war is over Russia being greedy. They just weren't happy annexing Crimea they wanted the industrial east. Regardless of the official Ukrainian government line about reclaiming Crimea, deep down they know they won't. Things changed when Russia decided to go into mainland Ukraine.

The US started the coup in Ukraine right in Russia's backyard during the height of the Sochi Olympics!

Putin deserved a Nobel Prize for his work to prevent an overthrow of Assad and war in Syria when he brokered the deal with the chemical weapons.
Lol this gem
