Yeah nobody ever made a big deal about the other 72 times that the loser of an election whipped up an angry mob that tried to hang the Vice President because he wouldn’t overturn the election.

Yes. Beyond one tweet that kinda sorta supported the 1/6 action, but to any objective person not at all. What link is there to Trump directing it?

If it's just a populist uprising (assuming you believe it was a hostile attempt to take over) there is no link to Trump or it being a coup.

No action was taken that stopped the transition, Biden is our president. Many of congress werent even there for this vote, ala AOC. The incredibly angry violent MAGa mob apparently forgot their guns, and most of the deaths arent directly linked to them, and NO politician was even harmed.

No other government entities were bothered. No other centers of power were bothered, and so far the only follow up action has been the complete nonactions back in early March. No foreign backing, not even puppet master Putin little green men showed up.

To call this a coup is laughable when you look at any of the details.

Violent protest, sure. Illegal, maybe? Coup, laughably not. There was no way the actions that actually happened that day actually provided a viable threat to our system of government.

The question was about your comment that the manner of succession set forth in the constitution (states choose electors, electors choose president) is just “policy.”

Are you really saying that the method of executive succession (I.e state choose via electors or the Vice President chooses unilaterally) is a matter of policy?

And by “policy” I mean that it is subject to change based on the preferences of factions or parties within the government.

Tax rates are policy.
Whether or not to implement federal reform of municipal police departments is policy.

Do you really think republic vs. autocracy is policy?

I’ve found it hilarious they spent 6 years or so ignoring or downplaying people on their side burning private businesses down, destroying courthouses/police stations, beating/killing people over a hat and even shooting cops yet they are so outraged over a few people breaking in to the Capitol to take a damn selfie. Such frauds, they are all worthless scum and that’s being nice so I don’t get deleted
