USC hires Kevin O'neil as new HC

Bottom line - comparing the two as college head coaches, looking at their records, with a very large sample size for both, CBP has a much better resume as a college head coach. I'm surprised anyone would argue that point.

I hate to repeat hat, but you have to look at context.

Maybe when you have a small sample size, but both guys have 10+ years as head coaches in college basketball.

And Kevin O'Neill has taken over bad or troubled programs at every step along the way.

I just want to see you tell someone what an awful Coach Tex Winter and Bill Foster were because they didn't have success at Northwestern. As for those 15 years you talk about, KO spent most of those coaching in the big time. That's the difference between he and Tanning Bed. KO gets paid to coach and evaluate talent in the NBA. The Bronzed Buffoon gets to come on and talk about players he coached against, since none of his guys get to the league.

Good point about Winter, but he had sucess before Northwestern. At Kansas State his record was 261-118 (68.9 win percentage) and had two final fours. O'Neill was 118-109 (52%), with only one sweet 16 appearances. And I know its not all about records, I'm just saying before the Northwestern job, O'Neill didn't have the near pedigree Winter did.

And Pearl's last two stops were in great shape when he showed up? KO may be a better coach, but to try to argue that his record as a college head coach is better than CBP is reaching, no matter what the context.

They weren't in near the shape that Tennessee and Northwestern were in the 90s

I see a pattern! There must be a reason why he has taken over bad of troubled programs, right?

College sports man, some coaches just have a hard time getting a fair shot on the college level. Hell, Arizona screwed him or he would have been the coach there.

Yeah, so NBA teams make a point of hiring bad college coaches.

Apparently so.

Can he coach some aspects? - obviously.

Can he be a successful head coach? - obviously not to this point.

I would be fine with KO winning multiple championships at USC. I can say I remember going to see his UT teams stink up TBA.

Wade Houston destroying the program had nothing to do with that.

Tony Harris and Isiah Victor, both of whom were signed by KO. That would be two top 25 career scorers, one of whom was UT's first legitimate point guard since Johnny Darden. Any other questions?

Last I checked, they don't hang banners for that.
