USC sanctions

So much for that "slap on the wrist" most of the know-it-alls around here were predicting. USC gets nailed, Kiffin has to deal with the fallout and the message board "pundits" end up looking like uninformed, pontificating fools. Now THAT is what I call sweet justice.

But that's can't be -- hatvol has special access and special knowledge, doesn't he?

Floyd has a new gig where -- is it UTEP? He has it because he couldn't get completely caught, but as the report notes, his apparent focus was avoiding anything getting caught:

"The former head men's basketball coach, assistant men's basketball coach, institutional compliance staff, faculty athletics representative, and athletics director all knew this representative had previously committed two separate NCAA violations. One of these violations involved the former men's basketball student-athlete and in the other violation, the representative was found to have provided benefits to a student-athlete. These university officials also knew that the representative was acting as the point person in the recruitment of the former men's basketball student-athlete, yet failed to take steps to monitor this recruitment."

Calipari is at Kentucky. You saying that's because he's "clean"? Even Tark got a job after UNLV.

Really. That's the smoking gun you're using to claim he was paying Mayo? Awesome. Maybe stick to mileage stats, since if this trash was worth anything, the basketball program would have been hammered too. Associating with someone with past AA transgressions is exactly dick.

Cal is at KY because his timing was solid.

Not a single action by Tim Floyd that you posted is contrary to NCAA rules. You see what penalties the 'AA imposed on him. None. Ask Kelvin Sampson if the 'AA allows you to change jobs and wipe your slate clean. Todd Bozeman can also give you a tutorial on that issue.

directly contrary to ncaa rules maybe not, but certianly a lack of monitoring. and bosemen didn't exactly get off scott free by the ncaa.

Which is the point. If the 'AA decides you cheated, they're going to hit you with personal sanctions. Remind me what punishment Tim is getting out of this.

You lost this time...admit it. You were misinformed on this whole situation

Apparently no one was watching the hen house. Winning at any cost will do that for you. If the money is there, take chances that you will not get caught. If you do, hope for few sanctions on your program.

I'm pretty sure that's what ADs and compliance dorks get paid to do.

so the head coach can just put his head in the sand? he can hardly claim he knew nothing about the prior issues. i can definetely tell you are a lawyer.

No, I wasn't. Show me any penalties against Tim Floyd and I'll listen to you. Otherwise, I'll treat the rest of your posts as I usually do.

So how does this exactly work. Is the scholly ban only on the programs guilty of wrong doing or is it the entire sporting program? They said what 30 schollies taken away right? Well if its for the entire sporting program then the effect is going to be much less than if its just for the football and basket ball. I mean they could take and field a girls softball, lacross, take any other program you want and field it with walk ons for 3 years. Not losing any football schollies. Anyone know exactly how it will work? I mean these guys are shady and going to find anyway they can to bend the rules.

so the head coach can just put his head in the sand?
He asked Guillory is he was acting as an agent or a runner. That's more than most coaches would bother to do. Mayo didn't have a car and his dorm room, by media reports, looked like anyone else's. Coaches are paid to coach, not play Clouseau.

i understand your point that by the letter of the law he did what was required, but i still disagree that he shouldn't have done more since it was an obvious infraction waiting to happen.
