USC sanctions

Watching some of these guys with vol in their names defend coach Kiffin and O is absolutely hilarious. Some people have taken their man crushes to a whole other level. Someone who has a cheating spouse usually lives in denial a.k.a. Elin Woods. Vols fans who sold their soul to Lane also have this problem. They still don't realize that we would be in the same boat USC is in today if Lane and co. were to stick around here another 4 or 5 years. What's better, a genuine National Title, or one that will be eventually taken away. I don't know about you but I like the fact our Sears trophy isn't going anywhere.

Exactly.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me which page of the report the 'AA's finding that Tim Floyd handed Rodney Guillory $1,000 at a mall in Brentwood can be found on. I bet it's right next to the show cause order they slapped Tim with for his violations of 'AA rules.

Floyd even denied he knew the guy was an agent or runner, saying "geez, he told me he wasn't." You buy that?

"There were further signs of possible trouble that went unheeded by the administration of the institution. On October 7, 2006, the director of athletics went to the men's basketball office after receiving an e-mail from a sports reporter looking for a response to a report that representative B was a professional sports agent and involved with student-athlete 2. When advised by the former head men's basketball coach that representative B had on numerous occasions denied he was an agent or runner, the director of athletics responded, "That's all I need to know," and left the office. No further follow-up was done."

Couldn't have happened to a bigger POS.

That said it is a sad state of affairs that there is more excitement over the punishment of a program not even in our conference than anything directly concerning our own program. Hopefully this excitement doesn't result in any innocent mattresses being burnt. (of course it was rumored that those mattresses were just the ones Layla had graced in her brief time here.)

What's the word on what the appeal looks like? Could they drop it to 20 scholarships?

i put on another thread, but word I keep hearing is that the NCAA, more times than not, doesn't reverse the school sanctions when they are brought up on appeals...for what that's worth

• A postseason ban in football following the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

• A loss of 30 total football scholarships over the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons.

• A vacation of all football victories starting in December 2004 and running through the 2005 season. This includes the national championship win over Oklahoma on Jan. 4, 2005.

• All statistics vacated for Bush, Mayo and an unnamed women’s tennis athlete in the games which the NCAA deemed them ineligible due to rules violations.

• Bush and Mayo must be disassociated from USC athletics.

• An acceptance of USC’s self-imposed penalties on its basketball program, which included a forfeiture of all wins in 2007-2008 and a one-year postseason ban.

• All titles won during ineligible games must be vacated and trophies and banners must be removed.

• A vacation of wins in the women’s tennis program from May 2006 to May 2009, for long distance telephone violations committed by a student-athlete.

• A reduction of recruiting days for the men’s basketball program in 2010-2011.

• Four years of probation.

Also, the AP reportedly will not revote on the '04 season, meaning SC will still be able to claim a MNC for that season.

So does that mean Kiffin can't show Bush highlights to recruits?
Why would he need to? All his recruits watched Reggie Bush play growing up, they remember what he did. The wins may be vacated but SC can still claim two straight AP national titles. The vacated wins amount to jack for USC.

The only thing that should concern anybody here on is whether or not they can regain scholarships through appeals.

I wasn't being serious. The fact that some quality depth might transfer should worry them. I think the bowl ban could have a small effect. Winning is the best recruiter. Without something to look forward to, SC is likely to drop a few. They've had a problem over the years getting up for games they should win even when they had something to play for.

It would kind of make sense if USC couldn't use Reggie Bush in their media, though.

Make no doubt, if the NCAA's ruling stands, USC is going to be Ted Tollner and a repeat of the 80's all over again.

Here is how the scholarship reductions will affect USC:

This is assuming USC loses ZERO players to attrition, career ending injuries, or early entry to the NFL Draft. So in reality, things will be much worse than this. It also doesn’t take walk-ons into account.

2010: 109 total players on the roster, 75 of those will be players who were awarded a scholarship out of HS or JUCO. The other 34 are either walk-ons, players who have earned a scholarship, or transfers. They still get 85 scholarships for 2010 so 10 of those 34 will be awarded a scholarship.

2011: 103 total players on the roster, 76 of those will be players who were awarded a scholarship out of HS or JUCO. The other 27 are either walk-ons, players who have earned a scholarship, or transfers. The have 75 scholarships available meaning one player must give up their scholarship. This is assuming the maximum allowed 15 are signed for 2011 and no Juniors declare early.

2012: 85 total players on the roster. 73 of those will be players who were awarded a scholarship out of HS or JUCO. The other 12 are either walk-ons, players who have earned a scholarship, or transfers. They have 75 scholarships available meaning they have room to give 2 walk ons scholarships. This is assuming the maximum allowed 15 are signed for 2011 and no Juniors declare early.

2013: 79 total players on the roster. 75 of those will be players who were awarded a scholarship out of HS or JUCO. The other four are either walk-ons, players who have earned a scholarship, or transfers. They have 75 scholarships available meaning all 75 will get a scholarship. This is assuming the maximum allowed 15 are signed for 2011 and no Juniors declare early.

2014: 45 returning scholarship players. The players in the incoming 2010 Freshman class who are redshirted and stay all five years will add to this number. If all 20 players did this then USC would need to sign 20 players in 2014 to get to the 85 mark. If none of the 2010 class is still around in 2014, USC will need to sign 40 players in 2014 to get to the 85 mark. Most likely it will be around 6-12, meaning USC will need a class of around 28-34 to fill the 85 scholarships.

Here is the breakdown by class for the 2010 season, including walk ons (number of scholarship players in parentheses):
RS SR: 15 (10)
SR: 6 (4)
RS JR: 22 (8)
JR: 11 (10)
RS SO: 15 (7)
SO: 6 (6)
RS FR: 13 (10)
FR: 21 (20)

I just watched Kiffin's response:

"We don't feel an impact at all"

"This won't effect recruiting"

"We are USC and we are powerful"

Matt Barkley needs to rethink about his statements of that "great university" and "education" he is receiving after he used some word spelled "adversery" when I assume he meant to say "adversity"....not once, but twice. Makes you wonder if the football players even attend class....

I will say this, Kiffin is a master at PR. I mean a real master. Might be the thing he is best at. Now I see why he interviews so well.

You forgot:

"we're still the best place in america to coach football"

"we are an extremely powerful university"

"i don't feel an impact at all"
