USS destroyer sailing by chinese disputed islands

And the populations of those islands chose to be a part of the United States.

Try again.

They had a choice? Not really.

I'm all about our claims during/after ww2...we should've claimed more imo. Japanese mainland should be resorts for hawaii, Sr. Imo.

This is what runs through my mind when Ras and pacer try to defend Russian or Chinese actions.

Deflect! Let's point out something else the U.S. does wrong to call attention away from the main point. I am on to your diversionary tactics!

Sure. So, again tell me why China has to abide by US rules?

Do we abide by there's?

The US generally recognizes an international quorum. I know hard for you to believe. We have such heavy handed tactics that the Russians and Chinese don't....

I'm sorry, what? Yes there are separatists among the Chamoro population but the majority of Guam is happily US citizens. But I've been there and have family there so what do I know?

Seriously, when it comes to these types of problem sets, York has probably forgot more than I know on the subject!

Another exceptionist. Yeah, we do good no matter what. Stick our noses in where we don't belong and then complain later why it's bloody...

I'm sure you have access to more recent Intel but i do remember when we saw their first real modern sub. PACOM freaked.

I bet. In my opinion and experience, China has always been the more troubling problem set in PACOM. The humanitarian crisis potential in the Korean peninsula is really concerning but when it comes to all out war, China is a bigger flashpoint.

If anything, I am very critical of US foreign policy. I believe we should be good stewards in the international community but I am a diplomacy first kinda guy. After all, countries don't have friends, we have interests. Our government's responsibility is to protect our countries interests. You have to remain proactive.

absolutely. nK wouldn't last long in a real fight. But China is close to being on par with our quality and will always have the numbers over us. The question would be why they would risk a fight when they are gaining thru soft diplomacy.

Don't you think other countries have the same? Its time we stopped policing the globe. Everybody is sick and tired of it! The incompetency of our govt is going to get us into something that even the exceptionist cant cheerlead...

Most other countries practice the same. They protect their interests and engage in diplomacy. Some don't. Some are alot more heavy handed than others. The reason you and Dad catch alot of flack is that you all champion the heavy handed practitioners who could care less about diplomatic relations. If you championed most any other country (Ghana, Finland, or most any other country), you wouldn't be called out as much. Despite what you call good that these countries are doing, their bad actions significantly outweigh it. Does Russia and China have good relations with their neighbors and the rest of the international community? I'll answer this one for you, no they do not. Why? Heavy handed tactics. I know your are going to point to some US folly as you always do. But I will leave you with this. When has the US had a coalition of other countries form to oppose our activities? Russia has NATO. China has an alliance of several Asian countries. There is a reason for several multinational exercises in the Pacific Rim. Not sure how you can justify what they do. US policies pale in comparison.

Your whole policing comment shows me that when it comes to geopolitics, you have no idea what you are talking about. The vast majority of countries appreciate our joint military training, our aid we provide, and our intervention. We have defense agreements with a vast majority of the countries out there. Isolationism has never worked (see WWI and WWII).

I do agree that our government is becoming more incompetent. This is due to a lack of understanding of foreign policy by politicians who are reactionary. Foreign policy is strategic.
