USS destroyer sailing by chinese disputed islands

I never said I agree with US foreign policy in regards to ISIS. If anything my comments have been quite the contrary. I am not sure why you insist on putting words in my mouth. This entire administration is inept when it comes to foreign policy. Again this is the China/ Spratly Islands thread.

Also ISIS came to acquire US and Russian equipment through taking Iraqi military equipment, Syrian military equipment, and any equipment the the US gave the alleged Syrian rebels. Definitely a policy I do not agree with. As my expertise is in counterinsurgency warfare and regional geopolitics, I can tell you that this specific practice is affront to counterinsurgency doctrine.

I'm not even sure why you're going on with him. Nothing you say will change his mind about anything. He constantly discredits anything that isn't spoon fed from the Kremlin. And forget anyone who's BTDT. They have nothing to offer.

Spinning your wheels with this troll my friend.

Trust me, this isn't a personal attack on you or ANYONE that's served this country. I have the utmost respect and admiration....you don't even know!!

My fuss is with our foreign policy only. I'm not against us flexing on occasion bc as a global leader we have to do as much. But, when it gets to the point where we over reach, like in syria or iraq, lybia, afhhanistan....those are not humane interventions. If that were the case we'd be in israel, Turkey and east Ukraine standing up for ALL minorities that are being supressed...

I can't comprehend how some people are like this. It's the same logic with pathological liar. Refute incontrovertible facts. For example, outside on a nice sunny, summer day, hey Pacer thats a beautiful blue sky. To which Pacer answers, its not blue. Everybody else notices the sky is blue. He can see the sky is blue. He just refuses to acknowledge it. I am becoming more convinced that he is trolling. No one can possibly be this naive.

China's claim threatens to overthrow regional stability. Our interest resides with geopolitically stability. Also, that sea route is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. I!agime a temperamental power denying access under the guise of territorial sovereignty shuttimng down said shipping lane if they wanted to.

Correct, which means that China would have just as much to lose by having the waterway threatened as anyone else. They are the first (or second) largest economy in the world. Do you really think China is going to do anything to jeopardize a major trade route?

Also, when will our time as the world police end? We have enough problems domestically to concern ourselves with.

Finally, something we can agree on! Foreign policy for the past couple decades, here in the US has been disastrous. I am not going to deny that. Everything should start with diplomacy on the situations that require our involvement. There are situa5ions we should not be involved in and some we should. The military option should always be a last resort. As far as offering training and equipment to groups, we need to look at second and third order effects to ensure that these groups will not become enemies or aid them. As a global power thought we must help mediate situations that involved violations of a countries right and sovereignty regardless of what our views on them are.

Technically Russia was Ukraine before it was Russia. See Kievian Rus.

And with that long, rich history between the two countries, why dd The West feel the need to spark a color revolution in Ukraine and attempt to put a wedge between these sister countries?

Agreed that China has a vested interest. Their tactics is what I am calling into question. Outrage over a US Navy ship using the sea lane that we have used for decades? The US Navy makes many port calls to many SE Asian countries. Seems hypocritical after they sailed near the Aluetians. If the UN worked like it was supposed to, a peaceful solution could be reached.

I bring something that is alternative. I'm usually attacked with superb retorts like this. When you can respond without using troll or a gif, then you too can join in the convo...

I wouldn't say spark as much as enable. The desire for an independent identity was there. Ukraine wanted to be separate entity. Think of it ling the clingy ex scenario. Russia wasn't ready to let go but Ukraine wanted to move on. Russia wasn't happy with losing that control and influence that they once had.

Crimea was sovereign territory of Ukraine and Russia invaded.

Crimea was given to Ukraine over 60 years ago during the Soviet Era. It was all still part of USSR then. Ukraine didn't become independent until the early 1990's, so even then, you are talking about 25 or so years of Ukrainian claims vs 200+ years of Russian claims. And even over the last 2 decades, Russia still had its only warm water port located in Crimea.

Crimea is as Russian as Hong Kong is Chinese...

You bring nothing that isn't approved by RT or Sputnik.

So any other media organization outside of RT is wrong? Every other country who said Russia did is wrong? How did Russian armor end up in Ukraine on video? Russian Soldiers on leave? Last time I checked militaries don't allow Soldiers to take combat equipment on leave with them. You are naive to hold on to this fictitious assertion in the face of overwhelming evidence. But I digress, this thread is about China's illegitimate claim to the Spratly Islands.

Where was this Western outrage when Britain illegally occupied Hong Kong? China colonizes a few atolls and The West gets apoplectic, yet Britain captures a mainland Chinese port and no one seems to see anything wrong.

Of course. And you're an angry old man in denial..

Just a few days ago you tried to downplay another poster by saying his service amounted to "loading airplanes in Kuwait." And that Airman was in a job that was more dangerous than you could possibly fathom.

So your so called "admiration" is more shallow than your answers to any direct questions.

I disagree with this line of thinking anymore. We are going broke policing every corner of the earth and I'm not so sure right now that the people in charge have not soiled America's good name and used our military for nefarious motives. I wouldn't have said that 4-5 years ago, but it has become clear to me after Libya and now Syria that we are not being run by good guys anymore.

Also, when will our time as the world police end? We have enough problems domestically to concern ourselves with.

The world will always look to America for help. We are atleast twenty+ years up on military technology right now and that isn't counting what we have that is top secret that nobody knows about that's also out there.

You don't Even know me. When I say I have respect for people that served, I mean it...even your old angry self.

Take a walk or something...

Pacer92 the last thing you want to do is bow to this level downplaying anyone's service bud. I like debating but your credibility goes down the toilet with my supper saying bs like that!

Oh stop it... I went through this at the time that was going on a few months ago. How the hell can you avoid not getting close to the Aleutians if you are trying to sail into the Bering Sea? There is almost no way to avoid it.

Oh, but I'm the angry one.

You have zero respect for anyone in uniform if you constantly ignore their viewpoints and treat them like simpletons. Even those far more knowledgeable in these matters than you could possibly be. So don't try to play this "I respect and admire those that serve" when you act the way you do.

And by the way, I'm not that old.

In retrospect, did Ukraine make the correct decision in moving West towards a collapsing EU and creating a military and political rift with its longtime neighbor?

I never downplayed anyones service. Attack me if you want...I've stated my claim. I'll shake any man's hand that has served this country.

Just dont attack and expect to be exempt...
