But to stay somewhat on topic (sorry for my tangents), I think that a raise was not necessarily earned from this season alone, but from the whole four year tenure. Why not give him a raise?
Pearl was previously signed through 2013 and made $1.3 million last season. His new deal increases his salary to an average $2.3 million a year. It includes a $250,000 bonus and an upfront retention bonus of $1.5 million.
Because that raise made him among the highest paid coaches in the nation already?
And how does that affect your life on a daily basis? Do you have a personal interest in Pearl getting paid as little as possible? The way I look at it, he's at a school that can afford to give him a raise (deserved or not), and had to do so in order to keep him. Good for Pearl, and Good for Rocky Top!
The raise to 2.3 million? That put him at 3rd in the sec. I don't know where he ranked nationally, but I would say he is at least the 3rd best coach in the SEC.

I suspect the raise impacts his life exactly the same as the lack of a raise would have yours.
I don't know about TTs interest, but I don't like that the bar for a raise for our coach just got lowered to the results we just watched.
