UT flying to meet Mullen today

Mullen should not be someone in the running. I would rather they hire a coordinator that is proven to be outstanding at his job. Think about some of the outstanding college coaches today: Saban, Stoops, Richt, Jimbo, Urban, etc.,etc. They were given HC chances and became great head coaches at one time or another. We don't want a retread that somebody else already tried and is just so-so. Maybe a HC that is just now starting to show his ability. Anyway, I hope the person has the character and ability to be here for a long time. Ala Fulmer, Richt, Snyder, Osborne, Spurrier, Beamer.

Show proof that backs up your statement.

Do I really need to post a link to the contract extension.

In 2012 we had a very real possibility. He would have jumped here. Since then he now makes north of 4M a year with no expectations and he still has TCU on the national stage.

There was a time he would have left. That is long past. Living in DFW we see all the TCU news. He’s not leaving.

Edit: no worries the discussion is moving fast. 👍

1. Gruden
2. Kelly
3. Patterson
4. Petersen
5. Shut down the program and turn Neyland into condos.

Anyone on that list would arguably be the biggest hire in college football since Urban took the OSU job.

What do you think the condos would go for?

This coaching search is a freaking circus

Only if you’re spending a lot of time on VolNation. Thus far it’s been incredibly quiet, a very discreet search by Currie. I haven’t seen any circus-like qualities at all, outside of the rumors and nonsense on this site.

Honestly I think he’s doing a good job. I say that because we don’t have validated leaks flying all around making us look stupid.

I honestly have no information if he IS doing a good job. We will know when the announcement comes. Just please don’t make me google the damn name this time. PLEASE.

And don’t forget that he has his own statue on campus. Most guys who have statues erected of them by their programs are probably less likely to leave said program imho.

Yep. I’d bet serious money he ends his coaching career there. Hell I wouldn’t be shocked if he slid into AD they love him so much. It’s just like Broyles was at Arky.

Low pressure, moderate expectations, $5mm per year, contract for 7 more seasons, beloved by all involved. Just no way he’s leaving for UT’s or anybody else’s program imo.

I suspect you are right, and out of all the top choices the only ones that we know will be coaching a different power 5 school next year is frost, the others unlikely to move , Gruden??? Unlikely to give up easy money,
The smart move would be start the bidding at 10 mil and make NE or UF break the bank to get him

I saw Mullen checking out orange cowbells at Tractor Supply this morning at the ass crack of dawn.

If they are flying to meet Mullen, then is it safe to say Currie hasn’t found his guy yet? Or just testing the waters on it.

I’m no expert, but I think he’s been zeroed in on Mullen from day 1. Been talking to the agents and hammering it out and can now talk to him since the season ended.
