get the priest at the Catholic Student Center to perform an exorcism in Neyland would be a start

I do think Sumlin has potential to succeed even beyond Johnny Football. TAMU is obviously located in Texas, and their current on-field success will probably lead to continued recruiting success. They're "on the map" with recruits and are advantageously located.

Exactly

until a change is made at the very top. The UT admin above Hart IS NOT committed to winning.

We have to hope that we can succeed with what we have. If not, another coaching change in 3 years and another coaching search that ends up being sub-par

Butch Jones may turn out to be great, but who knows. This league is not friendly to coaches without SEC experience.

If UT is going to return to prominence, we have to have the winning attitude start at the top. Its not there with Cheek

Fire Cheek and get someone in that thinks more of the UT AD than an ATM

i agree count but send hart packing as well.

Dead on IMO. The root of the problem is at the top.

Me thinks you don't know what Saban's record was before LSU.

I know he didn't kill it like Meyer at his previous stop, but hiring the Michigan State coach is still generally going to be a whole tier better than hiring the Cincinnati coach, with exceptions like Brian Kelly, who we should have hired when we hired Kifin.

I call foul cause K. Summerlin is kicking tail. Huge Freeze had none either and look at him. Went from a 2-10 record to a 7-6 his first year if you can coach you will do well. If you can't coach you will be exposed. Look at all the SEC coaches that got fired this year.

The jury is still out until the season starts. At this point we don't know where we stand with Butch Jones. My money is on the season going like our recruiting did; we will every game we're supposed to, and win a few games we're not supposed to win.

Saban got his start in the Mac.Just like meyer, and kelly.

I hope Jones enjoys that same level of success here.
I'm just not setting my expectations too high this time until I see results - a win over SCar or UGA or Fla, or a 5-star signing, whatever - anything to convince me we're trending upward again.

But, Jones' pre-UT resume is not at the level of the guys you named.
It's much better than the pre-UT resume of the coach he is replacing here. No question about that. Jones has at least won a fair amount of games at a couple of stops.

I asked earlier and even made a thread about this. What specifically is Cheek doing to hurt us? Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy from the academic side. What exactly is he doing to hurt the AD?

A season like that would make me very happy this year.

As far as Sumlin, he is a good coach, but give him more than one year to prove his worth. The sun shines on a moles ass every now and then

Give Sumlin more than one year to prove his worth? Yet you do not want to give Jones even one game?

All this negativity is killing me! We should give Jones a fair shake. He wants to be here. He doesn't have the rockstar name. YET!!! Gettin the blue choppers are great but if you don't have someone to coach them up it goes for not. I believe Butch Jones is a coach that will coach the talent up. Something we've not had in a while. Tiffin went to USC and inherited a team full of 5* but what has he done? A good hard nosed football coach will coach these kids up and results will follow. It may take a bit more time but I think the results will come. I'm not a very patient person but come Saturday I bleed orange and win or lose I'm all vol! GBO

He is one of the, if not the, reason we are in debt. He for so long, took money from the AD like it was a bank account without giving anything back

Thats why Hart had to beg for him to give back the 18 million to help with coaching salaries

UT AD was his own cash cow

Bobby Petrino and Mark Richt would also like to discuss this prerequisite of needing SEC experience before you are allowed to win in the SEC.

Isn't a lot of that debt for capital renovations? Isn't that long term debt? Isn't saying we are $200 mill in the hole like saying that you are in the hole for everything you owe except for the fact that most of what you owe may be wrapped up in a 30 year mortgage? Once again, not defending the guy because I truly despise him but I have yet to see where specific policies that he has are affecting the AD either on the field or financially. I would like to have some specifics so that I can write letters. So far here all we have is that we don't like him.....
